Rain

http://a.pomf.se/mpelbe.webm

This is the first time we have seen clearly in-game raining. Of course, I don't know if the rain just started at this moment on the video or if it's always like that, or some setting that influence rain is in low, but seems very very poor quality.

No splashing on the ground and characters, and no reflections, just a few white lines on the air and some raindrops effect on the screen..., that's the rain.

Opinions?

Can't you even see the fact that everything around in-game, the graphics just look utter shit? Game's probably not even close to Medium quality, absolutely NOT High. Easily comparable to the other footage shown in the video. And the build was probably/obviously old. I have no clue myself why they would lower quality on that specific part compared to the other.

Huh... indeed not that impressive. Although, the screen drop effect helps with the illusion a bit. Also, it's more like a rainstorm, so the wind could dissipate the rain on impact? Characters don't look wet either, though...

There was also rain footage on the upleveled Geralt video by ign. Everything was wet and, though I couldn't see any rain drops specifically (I assume it's due to the video quality).

Yes, I noticed the rain on the IGN video, but didn't noticed the characters wet until now, like you say, the video quality don't help.

Talking about the weather, again? How very English.

Rain, blood, dirt... it's the little things. ;) Kinda expected in a game where the heroes beard grows during fast travel, wouldn't you say?

Am I the only one that in the Gamespot video didn't see it as rain but more as slush and sleet (the state between snow and rain)? I can of course be wrong but it was the thing I thought of when I saw it the first time.

That was my impression as well, but I'm not sure. It's also a cut scene, which you almost expect to look a bit better.

Wow, that rain on screen effect looks silly...

I would hope for some wet textures and ripples, CD Projekt did say that their dynamic weather system is very impressive after all.

There is 2 big problem with rain effect.
First. The fractal reflecion is missisng. We can clearly see this effect in uncompressed SOD trailer in rain scene when Geralt was in sea at night time..
Second: No splashing on the ground and characters,

But what is strange, in Charles Dance video the graphics is way better than SOD trailer. Actually it's first video where graphics looks better than SOD trailer for me. But in gamespot video in rain scene graphics looks bad. So may be gamespot video was older than RED's video or RED's video was in ultra setting.

Never liked any blood splatters or rain drops on the screen, it reminds me I'm not there but just seeing through some device.

To be honest, I don't care that much about quality of the rain. I have imagination. Of course I want the best weather effects possible but it is no big deal really.

What I can't stand is the rain drops splashing on the screen! What the hell is that? Do I look at the world through a friggin glass sheet?! I don't know why so many games throw blood, mud, water etc at your screen, it is totally immersion breaking. The only case I can accept this is first person view while driving a car or wearing some kind of a helmet.

Even movies don't use this gimmick because it would immediately make you aware of the presence of camera, which is unacceptable.
A big NO!

On a livestream, the lobby was its name I think, gamespot said that it was an older build. And remember CDPR said they weren't showing the best graphics for pc prerelease, so it maybe that the final rain effects are the ones reserved for ultra settings?

AC:Unity is a gorgeous game. one of the best looking game i've seen. the urban areas in TW3 dont look as good as ACU's paris, but even though the game engine is so pretty in ACU the rain looked horrible in that game. drops but no splashes nor wet shaders on the cloths.
GTAV, on the other hand, have gorgeous storms and rain. superb. so does Watch dogs.

I don't like the on-screen effect, but I'm sure we will be able to turn it off.
Other than that, the raining sure isn't too convincing, I don't know, it's kinda slow...?

I hope that 'camera simulation' effect can be turned off. They just clutter up the screen.
