Raining cats and dogs

What do you think of the weather in The Witcher? I, for one, am bothered by the amount of rain that falls in the first three chapters. In Chapter I, it was raining almost constantly. In Chapter II, hardly less so. (Funny enough, the Swamps, although usually a very damp place, were constantly sunny in my last playthrough, with no thunderstorms at all, except the one created by the Elder Druid, which stopped after only a few minutes.) In Chapter III the rain falls less frequently, although I still haven't seen many sunny days. I can't wait for Chapter IV, where it never rains.I don't like rain because it ruins the serene landscape of the Outskirts for me. I always think it's bad for Geralt to be outside in the rain, even though he's immune to diseases. Also, the NPC huddle under porches and hug house walls in tight bunches, sometimes making it a bit difficult to locate them. Also, there seems to be a bug that perpetuates rain: a savegame made outdoors in cloudy conditions will almost invariably cause a storm when loaded. So, what do you think about the rain? Is there someone that likes it, or do you agree there should be less of it in the game?

I find it fairly random ... but i'm only on my first play through with EE. The outskirts did not strike me as especially rainy this time around, but i would say i'm getting the impression in Act II that there is more rain, but not that much. I haven't made it any farther yet, so i can't really say ... and i assume the fields will be as sunny as ever ;)

The constant rain drives me mad. It doesn't seem reasonable that Temeria would have a constant monsoon going on, but it does. Every time I hear the old woman in Vizima remark "It hasn't rained in a long time" I think: "Were you here yesterday?"

To be honest, I havn't noticed that it rains more in some chapters then in others. That's interesting though, I will see if I can tell a difference. :-\I'm only on my 2nd play through. No, I don't particularly LOVE the rain. But that being said, I've come to think that it definately has it's place in the game.It breaks up the monotany of the same environments, with the same people wondering around the same routes, etc.I like how the people huddle under the roofs and stuff, good touch i think.I can imagine it may be annoying for you just as night/day may be annoying for someone who needs a certain time of the day to do stuff.Thinking about it more...perhaps some sort of safe guard programming could have been put in place to prevent such odd rain occurence from happening.Good thing gerault is immune to flue viruses. ;)

I like variety, but almost constant rain is no variety. :-\ One redeeming quality of rain: I like the effect when I'm in a safe, warm indoor place like an inn, and can hear the muffled sound of rain outside. :)

It's always seemed to me that Vizima gets a LOT of rain -- the place makes Seattle look like a desert. And yet there are never huge puddles in the middle of the street, nor are there drains.I think having rain once in awhile does add needed variety, but Vizima doesn't get rain once in awhile; it gets rain more days than not. I assumed that the developers had set it to rain that much and that this added to the general gloom of Vizima or something. As far as I'm concerned, having people screaming in the streets after dark is gloomy enough without constant rain. And maybe Geralt can't catch a cold, but you'd think it would slow him down, having to fight when all his clothes are waterlogged!

Yes there is always a very bad weather in Vizima. I think it should express the depressiveness. Though my Geralt spent today in the temple quarter from midday / afternoon until ~10 p.m. and it didn't rain. I checked the time cos I saw this thread before I started the game. Geralt was for many many hours in the swamp before he returned to Vizima and I don't remember many long rain phases.

I think the amount of rain, and indeed, the whole weather sytem is modelled on a British summer. From 45 years of first hand experience, it is very accurate.

That's such a wierd thing about video games that really bugs the hell out of me, like how hard is it to make fiant rain/weather sounds when your indoors? Also, the lights coming from buildings at night! Like it's a friggin revolution to get freaking lights in the windows at night in games or something! :wall:Is this such a daunting task to accomplish? Glad they got it right at least.sorry to rant...but it just struck me.

man, mother nature should spread that rain around a little more evenly, we coulda used some of that here.Sounds just a tad gloomy with all that rain though.

I love all the rain in Vizima, mostly because I hate Vizima and just about every human living there. Makes the whole town seem even more.........gross or corrupt. But, then again, I love rain in real life.

The only place where I hate the rain is in the trade quater at the middle of the day. Has anyone had rain at night time?

hmm... :hmmm: I don't have many occasions when Geralt had to be at night in the trade quarter... that was during Follow the thread when Geralt met with the city guards and maybe for Velerad's kikimore contract unless Geralt couldn't kill enought kikimora in the swamp. And I don't remember it was raining then.

I spent only two nights in the Trade Quarter (there's nothing to do there at night anyway), and there was no rain. Only lots of kikimores.

Ditto with Voylodion, I'm British...that amount of rain reminds me of summer..or every time I've ever been to Wales. To be fair, the rain does seem quite well done graphically compared to other games' weather. Besides if it didn't rain as much i wouldn't get to amused when dwarves swear about it being 'really f****** wet'.

I guess it's just me then, being from a more continental part of Europe where rain is frowned upon. People from a country with oceanic climate (like the UK) are probably used to seeing it every day. ;D

In my part of the world, other than sunshine, rain is the only other weather we will ever have.Having rain in the game just makes me feel closer to it.
