To everyone having random crashes, try playing the game without your browser (chrome and firefox... don't know about ie or opera) open in the background while playing the game. It might seem unrelated, but for the past three days I have been trying this little experiment (no browsing while witching) and I have yet to crash. Considering I've been crashing at least once a day, I think it's a considerable improvement. Maybe it's only on my end, but do try it, it's a simple thing, no tweaking, testing, configuring, or anything involved in this procedure. Just close the browser when you play. That's it. It might not work for you, I don't know, that's why I would like more people trying this.

Think I can confirm this.
Win 8.1 64 Bit
Firefox 38.0.5
Geforce GTX 970 - 353.06
Witcher Version 1.5

With Firefox open it is continuously crashing after about 5-20 minutes, with Firefox closed I was able to play for 2 hours without crash.
I will have an eye on it and make a report tomorrow.

Thanks for the hint by the way. :)

I can confirm that if I close my browser, in this case FireFox, my crashing stops..

Thanks for the feedback guys, I was hoping that this little fix works for more people and not just me. I have been playing the game for 4 days now (not 4 days straight, a couple of hours a day), and still no crash. Considering I used to have at least one crash/day before, it's a huge improvement.

I'm not 100% sure yet (played/tested for too little time, about 3-4 hours), but looks like you shouldn't close the browser - just disable hardware acceleration, at least in Firefox

That maybe the case, but some people on the geforce forums said that only disabling hardware did not help. I am going to keep testing/playing without browser till the end of the week, than I'm going to switch to running browser without hardware acceleration. (though that might have some unwanted side-effects for the browser, even if it fixes the Witcher crashes).

Regarding Firefox I a way I might confirm the 'Firefox syndrom'. I have never any other applications running while playing. Only the essential ones integrated in the windows processes (only drivers and services). Firefox is never active while playing any game. I was able to play as far as getting to Vizima and chose between the three black outfits. In this time I only experienced two 'crashes'. The screen went black and the sound still running. I am on an i5-3450 @ 3.1 GHZ and GTX 970

firefox is known for crashing stuff lol... might have something to do with firefox flash plugin fighting the steam-integrated flash process.

try disabling the flash plugin. dunno if the steamwebhelper can be stopped, thatll prob break steam ui, it uses flash.

At last it frozen for me with HW acceleration off, so that is not a solution((

Dear CD project! Game is freezing at random situations. Sometimes it close, sometimes it become black window with sound of game, sometime i close it manual. I can play 5 min and it crashes, i can play 2 hours and it crashes, at least it crashes 15-20 times and it's very fcking annoying! I try diffrenet graphic options, but it's not working, i'm tired. Ubisoft games crashes less than yours. Why? Gta 5 on max. graphic setting crashes 3 times for 50 hours of game, i can play it 3 hours and it was ideal!

I continue to have amazingly steady game play, then crashing till the cows come home. Then I can play for hours on end, then crashing. Usually a complete machine freeze, sometimes just dropping to desktop, but just now I had the screen go black (the sound still played and you could hear people talking, the wind howling, etc) for 10 seconds or so. Then bzzzt! Complete machine freeze.

Gotta get this corrected devs. I play 12 different games, all steady and ready (go!), but W3 is a real mess.

The only crashes I'm experiencing are CTDs when I press i to open inventory. Not every time, but they are getting more frequent to the point that I save before I open inventory now, just in case. Maybe it's related to how much stuff I have in inventory?

Mhm, i've got definitely less crashes with firefox closed, but they are still there. Mostly in talking sequences when the camera angle is switching.

This was the inventory bug back in patch 1.02. Are you sure you updated the game? Try a verify/repair check from GOG Galaxy (if your on steam, you can do the same, it's called integrity check or something)

Hello Community,

I have also problems with crashes. The game minimize and i'm back on the desktop. I hear the sound of the game and it's in the taskbar. But i can't maximize the game. Only with the task manager i can quit the game by kill witcher3.exe. I'm not sure if this is a driver or a issue from the game.

Sorry for my english and regards form Germany.

I read something that this issue is caued by overclocked graphic cards. My card is overclocked by the manufacturer (Gigabyte 770 GTX OC). Maybe i will test this week if it works better when I decrease the clock.
