My first was because of the commercial success of Skyrim. I agree he has appeared humble mostly, but I've seen/read where he's been a little full of himself not unlike a lot of other developers.AgentBlue said:Fallout 4 is likely to be announced soon. Inevitably, a Game Informer exclusive feature will follow, with its batch of short interviews, one of which will have Todd Howard admitting to Skyrim's genericness.
TES V was a failed game, that's how I see it, anyway. But Howard has always struck me as candid and humble. So is that take just a hunch of yours or do you have something substantial to back it up?
The following is not specifically directed at you, but rather meant as a broad stroke remark.
These categories - casual, hardcore - have always sounded skewed and self-serving to me. I guess they amount to a subdued variant of the apparently wide-spread belief that RPGs are the modern day equivalent of Classical Greek literature, whose depth and breath only the high-cultured connoisseur could ever aspire to savour, while the illiterate mobs all gallop to the nearest mall for their weekly fix of mindless index finger reflex test, known as the FPS.
Well, given all the facts I've stated, it's quite possible you just have a really poor taste in humor. And that's fine.KnightofPhoenix said:I do not at all feel compelled to explain or justify my sense of humor to you.
Jesus Christ, it was only ONE frakkin line in a presentation. It was NOT a line of dialogue in the game, neither was it part of an official PR campaign of CDPR. My god, people, chill out!Singami said:Well, given all the facts I've stated, it's quite possible you just have a really poor taste in humor. And that's fine.
But it's not fine when the game is catered to such people, with LOL EPIC MAYMAY ARROW TO DA KNEE XDDDD popping out every second conversation with an NPC.
Nobody says Witcher 3 will be like that, but surely, that little "joke" got a lot of people both afraid and mad. They're want this game to be good and they're shown something that is most certainly not good. They are afraid that this game will cater to Skyrim babbies and now CDP just thrown more fuel into their fires of fear.
I think it's fine that the game caters to the likes of me actually. The "unintelligent" member of the community that I am.Singami said:But it's not fine when the game is catered to such people
65m? I remember reading 100m back then, or maybe is that the total cost for development + marketing?guipit said:65 MILLION DOLLAR MARKETING BUDGET
that's what made Skyrim a household name.
(or that's what I remember hearing, please correct me)
But you already have games for yourself. You might be interested in titles like Borderlands 2, Minecraft or Skyrim. Also check out Call of Duty series or Mass Effect series, they might be to your liking.KnightofPhoenix said:I think it's fine that the game caters to the likes of me actually. I suppose it wasn't in your intentions, that you're not trying to create "The Witchmeme 3: Wild Meme" which so much people are afraid of right now, but you have to understand, that PR is a really sensitive thing and most of your community features intelligent people, that HATE those childish excuses for jokes called memes.
People were already afraid that "you're aiming for the Skyrim audience" (even though it was mostly reporters fault, for asking you to compare W3 to Skyrim over and over again) and you've just thrown more fuel into the fire. And on top of that it's possibly the most hated meme-joke in existence, who ever thought it was a good idea?
You say it's not that bad, that it's not important - it is. Nobody is asking your for an official apology, that would be quite dumb, but there needs to be a STRONG message that this is an independent game that doesn't cater to nobody, especially console casuals. You can lose a ton of interest over this.
People, what is fucking wrong with you? This was just a joke during the conference. What a fucking STRONG MESSAGE? Even to talk about 'OFFICIAL APOLOGY', though not require it? And what's up with insulting all these forum members who actually like Skyrim for what it is, and who are OK with this Skyrim meme, and other memes as well? You know if people start to be afraid or mad because of some little joke, just six words phrase, they should go and check their heads ASAP, because it is already a mental health issue. When people have issues with jokes CDPR members say, they definitely require professional help.Singami said:Well, given all the facts I've stated, it's quite possible you just have a really poor taste in humor. Ha! Trust me, I can clone you a hundred times over, and all hundred of you combined wouldn't understand and appreciate the Witcher, the intricacy of its plot, and the depth of its themes as much as I do.Singami said:But Witcher's main demographic isn't the 16-yo dudebros laughing at memes, it's hardcore RPG fans that want deeper stories, more mature content and tough combat.
Jesus. I thought the OP was lacking a sense of proportion. Was your father killed by an arrow to the knee or something?Singami said:God damn it, I've logged in after a year of inactivity just to say this: DO NOT GO THIS WAY.

It's was an extremely bad joke. I've already explained why memes are an extremely low form of humor and they shouldn't find their way into a mature and serious game.vivaxardas said:People, what is fucking wrong with you? Case in point.
Now you can stop embarrassing yourself and move on.
Games are an artform. Claiming that "art is just for fun" is simply wrong, people look for a lot of other things in art. In case of the Witcher, they look for a deep storyline, tough choices, maybe even a bit of self-discovery.vivaxardas said:"CRITIC, n. Do you really want the Red team to take you so seriously that they clam up and say nothing that hasn't been approved by PR? That's what attacking them for off-the-cuff comments does. That's what companies who have come to fear their self-proclaimed fans do.
Making, publishing, buying, and playing games is supposed to be fun. There is no other reason to do any of these things at all. Disapproval in the name of high seriousness has no place in this.
Oh it is. It is a demonstration of my grasp of TW's plot and its themes, and my appreciation of them, which you evidently didn't bother to look at. As such, your ridiculous implication that I am a 16 year old dudebro who is not mature enough for it because of a difference in sense of humor, has been utterly refuted.Singami said:That isn't even an argument.
