Red Dead Redemption 2 (Red Dead 3)

Because it's Slantmagazine, a site that scraps the bottom of the barrel so hard it goes right through the bottom :) They often let politics colour their reviews too. The review mentions 'white privilege' and describes the protagonist as 'another stubby white guy'.

Here are some other scores they've dished out.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2/10
Vampyr 5/10
Ni No Kuni 2 5/10
Wolfenstein 2 3/10
Zelda BotW 6/10
Gravity Rush 2 3/10
Guitar Hero Live 10/10
Banner Saga 3 4/10

Yeaaahhh... None of those scores make sense, and I don't even care for a few of those games.

Take it at least another eight months to a year for a PC release, will be a good time to upgrade by that time we'll have more concrete info hopefully for that main endeavour ha

One thing is clear: it's on another level regarding environment design, lighting, weather etc. Just look how layered and lively the sky box is.

Although what they're doing with the streaks of rain falling is a bit weird.

Yeah, the lighting is easily the best part of the game's visuals. The game honestly looks photorealistic. No exaggeration. If you put a real life photo next to an in game photo (without any close up character models), I would literally not be able to tell the difference, especially not in certain parts of the game.

To me, it looks like GTAV graphics recycled to appear more organic. Great, but I wouldn't say anywhere near "photorealistic". Still pretty cartoony and exaggerated in my estimation. (Which is perfectly fine -- I prefer that, actually! But I would have liked to see a bit more departure from the GTAV color palette.)

Not disappointed at all, though. The cloud mechanics look cool. I'm sure the gameplay will dig out a corner of greatness for itself. RDR deserves a worthy follow-up.

Wish I could show you some of the screenshots I've taken. They are a major departure from the visuals of GTA V. Worlds apart.

Not sure how to get photos off my PS4 and on to my PC, though.

No it's not. Sure the game looks beautiful, but there are engines that do these things much better and more efficient. Volumetric clouds are old news, and while they look cool they are not realistic enough. Here is much better implementation:

I've watched some gameplay videos, seems massively overhyped and more like a tech demo than a game.

I haven't gotten it yet because my system upgrade has kind of set my disposable income on fire for a bit, but from all the footage I've seen, and the stories my friends have told, I am definitely buying this game.

I can see how the slower pace and "overly" detailed simulation part wouldn't appeal to some people, but honestly once I got through RDR's story, the rest of the gameplay became significantly less enjoyable simply because I didn't really need to pay attention to too much other than shooting my targets. I think this more deliberate pacing, really involved animations, and it exploiting my obsessiveness will maintain my enjoyment for much longer.

Funny, because that's how I feel about the gameplay we've seen of Cyberpunk 2077 so far. :p

I kid. Mostly. I do think it's a bit overhyped, but it didn't look like a tech demo (for the most part).

So for those of you playing RDR2, I am curious about some things that I haven't been able to find good answers to either online or because my friends are taking the game seriously and don't want to experiment yet.

Knowing your horse can die, can you ride it to death or is it just at risk when taking damage?

Can you be so honorable and famous that it balances out some of the social negatives of being super dirty, or the other way like you are so well groomed and dressed that many average people still respond positively despite you being a complete psycho?

Is there a level of hygiene that negatively affects your cores/cause illness/etc or is it mostly just social scorn and increased fights?

I've seen several mentions of the lowest honor tier affecting the environment including the weather, but absolutely zero descriptions of anything other than changing some cut scenes, social interactions, bonus outfits/store discounts, and the music, does it affect anything else?

Thanks much.

I'm actually not sure about this. Your horse does have both health and stamina, but I've always kept mine well-maintained enough that neither drops below the minimum. I did lose one horse because I rode him off a cliff, though. You can buy (expensive) "horse revivers" to bring them back to life, but if you don't have one on you or you don't do it fast enough, he/she is gone for good.

The official guide only mentions hunger and dirtiness affecting its health/stamina.

I believe being well-maintained has a bigger impact on NPC's reaction towards you than being honorable, in terms of pure social interactions. What you're wearing also has an effect on NPC reactions - wearing a bearskin outfit may cause some people to make fun of you, for example.

Nope. You can be poisoned and get sick in the game and that makes you lose your cores faster (as well as being too hot/cold), but hygiene isn't the cause.

However, staying bathed not only affects social stuff, but it also restores your cores.

No clue. I've played with exclusively high honor so far. I hate being a jerk to people in video games.

I'm going to play a lengthy session again tonight, and I'll test at least a couple of these things for you, specifically the honor/hygiene impact on social interactions and riding your horse to death.

I will say, I'm not so sure about honor affecting the weather. I'm not doubting it entirely, but the guide doesn't mention anything like that (Granted, it doesn't mention much at all about how honor affects the world, just what the "game-y" results are).

Um, from my experience in the first game, the horse will buck you off when it reaches it's limit. I assume the same happens here. Edit: It struggles to get back up, so it's up to you to set your horse at peace or let it die on its own. You can revive it you have a horse tonic that can do that.

High honor will grant you discount advantage at stores, just like the previous game. There were no advantages of having low honor in RDR. Another feature that is affected by the honor system is the kill cam and gameplay soundtrack. If you have high honor, your kills on the kill cam will look more heroic and less gruesome if you were to play in low honor. The soundtrack accompanying your play through will change it's tone to fit with your state of honor. Weather has nothing to do with the system at all. Helping people will give you plenty benefits as they will remember you and reward you on the spot or at a later time frame ( I was rewarded with a free weapon in front of a gun store).
