Regarding armor upgrades and selling items

Ok so there's two things i was wondering about:

1- In my inventory i still got the Witcher armor, it says witcher gear. I heard that later in the game you get to upgrade it and thus you shouldn't sell or dismantle it. Where does this happen? Right now i just make my own armors at blacksmiths, but i don't want to sell this and later be sorry about it.

2- My inventory is full of items, especially in alchemy and crafting. I made all the potions i can create at this moment, also all bombs and oils where i got the diagrams of. I haven't made anything from alchemy substances , because i have no idea what they do and had no reason yet to make them. The decoctions list is also something i have not made anything from yet, cause i lack certain mutagens. Any alchemy items i don't have to use for that, i can sell?

Then there's the crafting items. So far i just make armor, gauntlets, trousers and sometimes arrows. I have lots of different ingots that i don't do anything with, lots of silver, iron, items too. Should i just sell or dismantle and sell these? It would clean up my inventory quite much.

keep it, especially the high tier alchemy stuff and monster drops, they don't weigh anything (well, barely, I know it adds up) and you will use it for upgrades of both armour and potions.
starting gear isn't really worth keeping, more's the shame as it looks nice.

Finding out what to sell, keep, throw away, dismantle, etc is part of the game. You should really try to figure those things out for yourself.

Yeah i know and i agree, but sometimes i need help with that. Especially because many of those ingots i really don't use. In fact i wonder why i can even make them, cause so far for most of these armors, i don't need those ingots. As for the starting gear, on another forum i read that you should keep it, cause later you get to upgrade it and you apparently can't do that with other armor.

you can't and yes, it's upgradeable but it's only good for like prologue. it's not a strong armour at all. maybe they will add it in, but even so, you can just sell it or dismantle it, as you automatically know the diagrams (if memory serves) and can always reforge it if needed
as far as good ore, ingots and plates, keep those as you will need them all eventually if you are planning on crafting advanced Withcer gear.

Witcher gear (green item background) I'd generally hold onto.

Ah yes. I spoke to the blacksmith in the Baron's area, and i received a master armorer quest. I assume that's where i will need the ingots for?
