Remove this game from Steam until fixed. [.NET Fix found]

I brought Witcher 2 on Steam about a week ago (i know i missed the sales)
I have spent days upon days trying to get it to work.
I have gone through all threads on here, Steam and Googled... Patched, check programs, uninstalled .NET, ver 2.0, EVERYTHING!
Every other game I have on Steam/origin/Normal Cd installs runs with no issues at all! In the 200+ games I own and NOT ONE has a error launching.

System Specs? i7 2600k, SLI 580's (I have tried a single 580), 16gb ram etc etc, so the computer can handle this just fine!

I launch the game several ways and get a 0x00000005 error, I manage to get a 0x00000145 (or whatever the error is, CBF getting the right error as we all know what it is) and done a .NET reinstall from fresh again...

How can you guys seriously expect to charge people for this game when it doesn't even launch.
I have contacted Steam for a Refund but I don't like my chances...

Poor form guys....

These are well-known errors with well-known solutions. Have you actually attempted any of the documented solutions, such as looking for and uninstalling incompatible programs?

If you haven't followed all of the advice in this thread: http://en.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?/topic/26411-additional-fixes-for-21-issues-and-142-error-or-witcher-2-stopped-working/ then it is time to do so, thoroughly and in detail, even the parts that you think are not relevant.

I gather your trying to help Guy N'wah and thank you :)

I work in IT and have been gaming for 20 yrs so I am tech savvy. I know games do have bugs from time to time, but not game breaking bugs where the game doesn't launch at all, well not from a AAA game.

I have been reading, patching, uninstalling, reinstalling, downloading, launching from direct .exe's, checked for any conflicting programs as outline by the MOD in these forums, you name it, I've done it. I spent over 12 hrs trying to get this to work.

As I've been reading on many of forums, 2.1 broke this game with alot of people, I really cannot believe the Dev's haven't released a hotfix by now....

It sounds like 2.1 is working its mojo. Uninstall, and update only to 2.0.

Problem with that, Steam Installs the game and it has on twice updated the patch while it was downloading/installing.
I have almost sat there and monitored the download all the way up to 100% (It was over a few hours), then it installs, I wait to cancel any updating, Go to launch the game and BAM error, even when .net isn't installed and it didn't try to install .net
Check my version again... 2.1.....
Checked Registry and there are no Reg Keys .NET would register in the reg-edit.
I have Lots on reading on .NET and made sure the computer was completely clean of it in files and reg-edit.
The only thing I haven't tried is a format, reinstall windows and start again. However I not going through that much work just to get this too work... that's asking way too much.

I will repeat, EVERY game I have works with no issues, I even got Saints Row 2 working fine (which is a nightmare to get working) with 2 easy tweaks.

Aww shit. I forgot about that. Truth is, Steam and this game = trouble. GoG is the way to go. I agree that it's crazy they still haven't fixed 2.1 patch issue, but there are fixes out there for it. I would think someone on Steams forum might post a fix if they knew of one.

Yeah, Thanks for your help anyway.
Just a matter of waiting for Steam to get back to me now and hope they do a refund, then I might consider GoG but this BS to get it working has burnt me out, otherwise $$$ down the drain and a lot of frustration.

Okay,

I spent more time reading and found something Totally bogus on another game forum but it infact FIXED the issue, THANK GOD!

Update your System time using the Windows Internet time, if its out of sync by a few seconds some Windows programs might not work correctly. Turns out .NET could be one of them!!

As Soon as I updated the time (seems like I was out by about 30seconds), Launched the game and it worked... even on 2.1.

MOD, can you please delete this post and add in the system time update to possible .NET fixes.

Well I just tried your suggestion and it didn't work for me. Anyway there's a proposed fix for Steam users here: http://en.thewitcher...topped-working/, under the section STEAM ONLY.

Haven't tried it myself though. However I was able to get the game to run by renaming an Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 Extended file (Acaptuser32.dll) as suggest here: http://en.thewitcher...atch-21-issues/

In general, the solutions listed over at Steam have been the same ones as listed here (I've tended to tell most people at Steam to come here to Tommy's various threads, just to keep info consolidated). The problems, and the solutions, have been the same for both sets of users - it's just that the one easy solution for non-Steam ("Don't update past 2.0") doesn't work for Steam.

That's a new one, I think, and thanks for posting it. I hope you enjoy the game and that this bad start doesn't spoil the rest of it for you. (And yes, I also wish they'd just removed the 2.1 patch from Steam and reverted back to 2.0. It would have removed a lot of frustration.)
