Repeated Crashing (started 2 days ago)

+
Oof. Game started crashing about 2 days ago non-stop. Sometimes I can play for all of 5 minutes before it dies again. Haven't changed anything mod-wise/game-wise. Any help would rock my socks. ;) Oh and everything is updated. Will this help?:

"REPEATED CRASHING (STARTED 2 DAYS AGO)"

How exactly does your system "crash"?

1) It freezes for a sec, then game exits to desktop.
2) It freezes and stays frozen and you have to hard-reset.
3) All of a sudden your system shuts down.

a) Can you remember what happened two days ago?
Did you download a file or app, or deleted something?

I see Cyber Engine Tweaks on the list, and also props.
b) Did you perhaps downloaded one of the modded apartments two days ago?

c) Does the game crash without a single mod running in it as well?
d) Do other games crash the same way as Cyberpunk 2077, if at all?

e) Did Gog update two days ago, coincidently?

It is the game crashing. No warning. It just stops no matter what I'm doing and then poof.

Only thing I did 2 days ago was install a mod which I have since deleted.

I also removed all of the AMM mod. I THINK I got the files associated with it out. If I didn't, then I am stuck because I don't know which file(s) to look for to zap.

I don't have anything else to delete. And no, GOG didn't update or anything 2 days ago.

Thank you for answering my plea! <3

With this, you mean it first freezes, and then exits to desktop?

Honestly, I really think it's related and something has been modified in the game files. Even with deleting it, the modified file(s) still there and maybe also (worse) modified datas remain in your save files :(

So the first thing to come in my mind, it's to unsinstall (completely, no file remaining) the game, reinstall it and try with your save files. And If it's happen again, to try with a new playthrough (new save file).

For a split second. Maybe not even that. It stays 'running' if I don't hit the bar that takes me into the actual game I notice which is weird. Sometimes, I can go a city block before it just boots me without warning. So, yeah, sometimes. *wonders if I'm making any sense whatsoever*

Well ouch. This is going to be fun. Like dragging my face against pavement fun. xD

GOG has a repair function. You could try that before doing a complete reinstallation.
Check the image below on how to find it (sorry for the German, lol):

What mod it was, for know ?
For example a mod that would change the outfits of NPCs could cause this kind of problems, I think (the mod can modifying the spawning rules).
When an NPC that would be "supposed" to be modified should appear (so randomly), the game engine would try to load textures/files that are no longer present after the mod is deleted and the game could crashe.

I hope it could work, but if it's only "the content" of a game file who is modified by the mod, I don't think GOG repair function can find it :(
But it costs nothing to try :)

Can you tell me which mod that was?

Do other games crash?

No other games crash. Ever. Thankfully.

I removed ALL my mod files and put just a few in. (I had a LOT) and now it is playable. Smoother too. For now. I don't think I will be messing with anything for awhile. I have the basics that I wanted in the first place. Will see how tomorrow goes.

Thank you for letting me know about the repair option. I did not know about it. I will use it if I have issues again for sure. I think it was something in the AMM files due to the fact that when I go back to my place, there is still lighting coming through my window blinds. It seems that something from AMM stuck with the game for some reason. I KNOW I uninstalled any and all AMM folders and such so....yeah.

Anyway, thank you both for helping me. I LOVE YOU MAN!! *squeeze* :) I'm sure I will be back if anything else occurs. ^^

Update: Still running smoothly. Also my Boom 3D needed an update. Wondering if that had a hand in the crashing. Mmmmm the joys of computerhood. xD

Just to clarify: You had the crashes and now it works on the very same save file? Or did you have to go back to an older one?

It runs/ran fine on my save. I learned how to check my mods after this happened lol. When they clash, they wreak havoc with the game. :)

Sorry for the late reply, I sort of missed your answer...

Are you talking about "normal" mods which are put into the game's mod folder or CyberEngineTweak mods?

I am having a similar issue on my Series X. I decided to pick up back up a couple of days ago. Ran through the 2-disc install, ran through the patch, rebooted the console and fired it up. I got kicked out to the desktop going up the elevator to my apartment after the prologue. Then I got stuck on Saving Game when I went to sleep in my apartment. The funny thing is, I did not have one single issue people were complaining about on my first paly through from day 1. Has peoples desire to play the game on the Atari 2600s caused the devs to prevent MY game from working now...

Have you try these few steps ?
Because on Serie X, there is not much to do. And I'm also on Serie X and I think I have enough fingers to count my game crashes since 1.31 update (so since 3 months of play).

Version.dll is a cyber engine tweaks file. Make sure you are using the correct version of CET for the game version and make sure your CET scripts are up to date.

I recommend backing up /bin/x64/plugins/cyber_engine_tweaks/

Delete this folder.

Then manually remove Cyber Engine Tweaks. This involves deleting 3x files in /Cyberpunk 2077/bin/x64:

LICENSE.file
version.dll
global.ini

and delete the following files in /Cyberpunk 2077/bin/x64/plugins/:

cyber_engine_tweaks.asi

Then try to start the game. If you are missing CET files like global.ini, your game will flatline. If version.dll doesn't correspond to the correct game version, your game may flatline. If you are running outdated scripts like photo mode tools, your game may flatline.

If you can isolate this to CET, re-install it, then move your scripts back into /cyber_engine_tweaks/ one by one until you find the culprit.

If your game still flatlines without CET then please provide more information. What is your mod list? Does Windows leave a crash log in Event Viewer? If so, please post it.
