Replacing New Moon/Thief with Bear/Ursine

Anyone mind giving me a hand here? Have 0 mod'ing experience but very happy to "learn to fish" and not just be given the fish.

Very simply put. I am using New Moon (thief) armor. I would like it to look like Bear/Ursine armor.

Originally I was putting a lot of effort into textures but was informed (link below) that I was approaching it the wrong way. It was really the meshes I needed to work with.

So I uncooked and exported the bear meshes and renamed them with the thief naming convention. This gave me my first real sign of progress.

Here is where I am at now, though. The scary is placed correctly but not really attached, if that makes sense. It sorta floats around and gets in Geralts face. Also the lower armor/skirt/dress part of the Bear armor is missing.

Some notes on things that seem relevant to me.

Bear has "a_01_mg__body_bear_lvl1.w2mesh" there is no thief "a_" mesh file for me to rename to.

Bear has "d_04_mg__bear_d01.xbm" but I think this part is ok since the "t_04a_mg__bear.w2mesh" seems to incorporate it... but that is the skirt part that is missing.

Anyway... if someone could guide me a little, I would great appreciate it.

Thanks!

I cannot post links, but there was a super nice dude on reddit in the Witcher3Mods sub that was trying to help me. Post named: "Mesh Assistance"

I was that guy on reddit. So I asked around a bit, and @marvelmaster told me you could try to edit the w2ent files for each piece of the new moon armor and change the paths to the meshes. I don't know how to do that, but it'd be done with @Sarcen's mod editor.

So I must just be dumb (about this anyway, lol)... hah.

Firstly, I'm unsure about what a w2ent file is or where I can access those. I see that with Mod Editor I can open up mesh files, but that seems to not be what I want since the mesh files in the mod are already just the bear meshes renamed.

I saw some similar mods are just changing some XML files in gameplay/items, but I guess I am getting a little gunshy here. I need to test that more.

Mod Editor seems very cool, just getting lost in it all.

Holy crap... talk about going too far. XD

Ok, so I have this working, done, perfectly as I wanted it. It literally required 1 line to be changed in 1 file.

All I did was find: dlc\ep1\data\gameplay\items\def_item_armor.xml

Locate this line:
<variants> <variant equip_template="t_01a_mg__thief" category="gloves"></variant>
and change it to:

<variants> <variant equip_template="t_01a_mg__bear_lvl4" category="gloves"></variant>
Then cook that and done.

Please accept my heartfelt thanks for the time and effort spent on this, without it I would not have gotten it done.
