It is not. It simply isn't. When I wan't to change direction I don't need 2 meter turn radius unless I am running really fast. I just stop and walk in the other direction. This has also been the case with TW2.

agree, after playing a bit more, the character do not always respond correctly. I was fighting somes wolf in the "tutorial area" and sometime after a block ( even while smashing LMB ) geralt didnt nothing for like 0.3-0.6sec before start his attack. this i really weird and irritating.

Same thing, i was about to start a fight, wanted to use the fire magic.. and... nothing the enemy had time to rush at me and hit me. Even if i was spaming my use magic key...

there is somes annoying "lag / delay" during combat, that's clearly not really pleasant.

Another thing,
** while playing with Keybard and mouse, the consilish "target lock" is pretty pointless would be FAR better to have some kind of "TPS" mode like you can see in somes actions games or mmo ( tera / black desert / blade & soul ) it would without doubt improove a LOT the fightning compare to that annoying consolish dark soul like target lock system ( even if it can be handy, but only when you face a single foe )

** Would be also nice when you have your weapon "out" to be able to use your guard even if geralt isnt in "combat mode" it would allow to go closer to the target, and be more reactive / prepared.
And the "TPS" mode would also help a lot.

Because actualy, you have to get close to a enemy, wait the game start the "combat mode" and THEN you can finaly guard / attack.. etc.. on paper its not bad, but in game its often not always good, and many time you cant react correctly or with anticipation

Lol, its not realistic at all.
1- in "reality" you dont need to wait the "combat mode" to use your sword / guard.. or whatever else
2- in "reality" you are not using a TP camera to see you fight
3- swing a sword in "reality" doing for each hit a 360° and i'am not sure you are going to be able to keep fight a long time like that.
4- So far i know, there is nothing realistic in the magic usage
5- hold a sword infront of your face in "guard position" dont make you magicaly block whatever attack, nor making you magicaly turn in you for direction..
.. etc etc

Nothing is "realistic" they "only" used nice fight animation that turn the visual more natural / more credible

I think it sucks that you're facing this problem, but I have to say... I'm loving Geralt's realistic movement, I have learned to take it into account when I control him and it's making for a hell of a lot more fun and realism. I'm actually *worried* about his movement around risky grounds, I have to *calculate* roach's standing position if I'm running to him and want to mount him quickly, it's so great.

If there were a patch that made him run and stop in his tracks by the snap of a finger I would probably not install it lol. But I hope a fix is found for those who dislike it.

Witcher is not a running simulator.
We need at least GTA4/5 level of movement control.

Looking is even an issue. You run and can miss the popup which has to be showing on the screen to look the item. And when you double back you go to far and can't loot it again. The loot should really just be 360 degrees with a short range.

I would overall disagreed. I think it's a general improvement over Witcher 2's combat.

I think the targeting system could be changed that if you tap the targeting button, you switch enemy targets and holding should disengage lock.

Overall I don't want this to become something like Dragon Age where you spam the basic attack then use the occasional ability. I think CDPR should keep it as it in most respects. Maybe on the lowest difficulty, they can add a newbie/auto mode. Otherwise, they'll be gimping one of the finer combat systems in an action-RPG.

This happens to me all the time.
I think it is very broken that you as a player see a UI indication on the screen (loot x).
But is given no chance to stop in time which makes following the instructions on screen broken.

Yes!

The game itself is beautiful and engaging so far. This is really the only issue that I have so far. If only Geralt's movement was instantaneous and fluid, everything would be perfect!

I think the main problem is that once you stand still (or nearly stand still), you have to do the whole Walk > Run animation cycle again.
Maybe the problem would be solved if the character would instantly run (if set to run) instead of doing the Walk Animation and then the Run Animation.

Maybe they just wanted a little wind-up time (like in a lot of games), although here it takes simply too long and because of the animations it looks/feels a bit odd (no fluent Stand-to-Run Animation).

As long as the character is at running speed, controlls seem to be no problem. But once you slow down (do not press the keyboard anymore) because of e.g. picking up loot/plants you revert to walk animation or cancel completely which makes everything awkward. (because the change is too slow)

Yes it is a big problem, I can understad the few steps to stop but in general the controls fell odd, like you can not get your char to the place you want at the first attemp.

+1 this is my no.1 complaint with the game

Exploring would be so much more fun if I didn't constantly run in circles while trying to pick up a herb.

Signed, agreed. This needs a fix, along with the frame rate drops and the overall smoothness.

Witcher 3 needs a lot of performance, but it actually also looks very good and is a huge open world. My computer is from 2009, only upgrade is a SSD as well as GTX 780 graphics card to stay up-to-date.

I can still play witcher @ 2560x1440, yes ... I can't set everything to Ultra/Maximum, but that is what you need Titan X SLI for ...

They can maybe do some optimizations but I think it is clear that performance will not change by a large degree.

The controls on the other hand may not need that much coding changes and may be possible with a patch. I only hope they read threads like that and also have the intention to make the game a bit better, now that it is released. (most companies only fix major flaws/bugs and then go on with the next title)

As many have said, I 100% agree as this is my biggest gripe with the game, let's use some visual examples:

In GTA 5, movement is fluid, smooth and animation transitions from walk/jog/sprint all flow correctly WITHOUT jolting the camera back and forth so harshly like W3 does:

From https://youtu.be/-D1aMiGGIJw?t=509 onwards, a bit brief I know but i'm on my phone so can't personally record footage...you can see how the camera doesn't jolt about, movement from walk to jog is fluid even when start stopping and best of all, franklin has weight on his character movement.

In the W3, the transition are clunky, non fluid, and cumbersome with the camera lurching back and forth, here is a good example of the way the camera just "zooms" in and out like a mad man:

https://youtu.be/F_eRUq1PQPE?t=187

Best examples I could find in short notice but backs up the points further in this thread I hope.

The movement, for me, is the one thing that is preventing me from enjoying this game to it's full potential, the camera controls, the lack of fluidity in movement, how I literally have to fight the controls getting back on the horse, gathering ingredients, trying to focus on enemies or animals or target switch opponents etc etc. I really hope this can be improved with future updates as currently, with how cumbersome it feels, it's ruining my enjoyment.

Then why no animations for picking herbs/drinking potions/eating food etc? Because it massively slows down the game. I'm all for immersion, but it should be optional.

I think a better method might be to provide a toggle for 'realistic movement', for those who really want it, and allow the others to leave it disabled. and preferably animations and the ability to toggle them for the above, but I fear it's a little too late for that :(

And it's weird, I use a mod in skyrim to ADD this kind of realistic movement, and greatly enjoy it. But then that's probably due to the less difficult gameplay of skyrim. maybe I wouldn't mind it so much if I was playing on 'just the story' or 'story and sword', but 'blood and broken bones', or 'death march'? Hell no, I want full control of his every movement or my furniture is going to be domestically abused...

If you're walking and try to turn, the character has to make this big looping bend in order to turn. Give it a try and see for yourself. Notice the big circle the character makes in order to get turned.

Now, get on the horse and walk and make the same turn. It's the same looping bend. The fact that a walking man has the same turn radius as a horse should prove that this needs to be addressed. ;)

A game breaker? No
A annoying feature? Yes

Geralt needs to do quick slashes/thrusting stabs more often (when enemy is very close (or close to attacking you)). Geralt also needs fast pirouette dodges, why you had to remove them.

the only real problem i have with the witcher 3 to this point is the fluidity of movement. it definitely feels like you are on skates.
