Rescued "Person in Distress" now missing. Mulbrydale Sword Smith Gone

I used the power of Axii and arrow deflection to free the Sword Smith of Mulbrydale very early on.
It was my first rescued Person in Distress and I escorted the guy back home because I thought "No, dude. I just rescued you, I'll not have you slaughtered by dogs and wolves now..."
I think this was my mistake. The smith has become unable to be interacted with after save->game exit->load and disappears completely once you leave the area. Also the "yay, mysterious wanderer saved our smith" note was missing.
Pretty sure there's a trigger not getting triggered when you escort the guy back instead of letting him go out of sight.
Maybe affects other Missing Persons, too. Idk.
Anyways, had to make a 5 hour rewind to get the guy back, didnt play gwent with him yet :/

Ran into the same problem. Saved 3 or 4 PID's, but only 1 appeared as he should. The rest are just missing. Looks like this problem happens to quite a lot of people. Hope CDPR will fix this!
 
I was following one and we ran into a pack of wolves and he died in one hit before i could save him. I think some of these people that you save are being killed on the way back home, and that is BS.
 
Hi.

I have exactly the same problem, the same blacksmith, for me he have never appeared in the village.
Please CDPR can you fix it, because I played several hours before I realized this bug, and I do not want to start over for the Gwent cards.
It's really frustrating.
 
I have a similar problem with the merchant near the Hanged Man's Tree. I saved him and I was able to talk to him once. But then I reloaded and now, he is there, but he won't sell me anything. And he doesn't have the "Merchant" icon on mini map either.

Actually, I had the exact same thing happened to me. I reloaded to my save before releasing this prisoner and followed him. I ran into that huge pack of wolves and blacksmith died. Then I reloaded again, trying to kill all wolves before prisoner reaches them, but while running across the place those wolves inhabit, he goes into the "frightened stance", becomes not available for interaction and/or disappears.

So even if you try to save him, he disappears anyway.
It is a blacksmith who will always bugged whatever you do.
I am happy not to have start again more 20 hours of game just for him.

I hope they fix this bug too.

I've had both, got a ticket on it. But with the border crossing merchant. Do you get weird graphical glitches with him too?

I've narrowed it down in my saves to either giving the children some money for food or looting stuff from the cave with lvl33 monster hunt. As before that I could access him but don't have save between them.
Did you do either.

May just be I saved him to early, lvl4 and big red skulls lol

I've did both. I looted the plans before that, I don't remember when I gave the kids the money, it may have been after I've rescued him.

Well tested them both from an earlier save yesterday, separately and together and he still works. He's not on the map though, but never has.

Only other thing it is the deserter tied up on the road I may have done inbetween it's that or some timed thing or random event at the borderpost. Otherwise, it's just an error in his code which could happen when his inventory updates.
 
Have you found any solution yet?
No worries, he only sells more or less common stuff except a diagram for the Superior Griffin Armour (781g) which you can find "for free" later in the game at a level at which you can actually use it (use google).
The Gwent win only gave me three wires, no card at all.
