I was fully patched and so on before I started my first game - used the "Check for Updates" option.

All I can think of then is to load a previous save and see if they return. Otherwise you may need to start again. I haven't heard of that particular bug before. ~ Roxy

Just a wild idea here, but did you tell the reverend that you knew all about the beast and has he told you about the hideout ? If so, this is no bug, this has triggered the end of the Act and you must simply proceed to the Inn. If this is the case, definitely reload to prior to speaking with the reverend about the beast.Otherwise, Roxy is correct, there really are few options ... and it's a great game, i'm sure you did not find every single little thing available to you the first time around anyway ;)

I have the same bug (I started the game with version 1.3). The Reverend and Mikul have vanished (I did not get a quest from Mikul yet).I have looked for Mikul at all three gates. The map tells me he is at the top-rightmost gate but he's not there. Instead, when my mouse hovers on the guard on the left from a distance, there are 2 green circles on the ground instead of one. The second circle disappears when I come closer.Do developers read this forum ? This may help them correct the bug for the forthcoming improved version. If needed, I can send them a saved game.Great game, although I will have to start again from an old save game and keep my fingers crossed. I hope there are no more game-breaking bugs like this one.

it might help if a patch is released after the EE comes out, but i sincerely doubt this can possibly make it into the edition coming out next week (if it is a problem with the game and not just a strange set of circumstances)all these threads are read by staff (both paid and volunteer) and i'm sure that bugs are eventually pointed out to those who fix them, so it never hurts to document what you've found, just don't expect miracles :peace:

Not much harm done anyway! I save very often because the game locks sometimes. The cause of that bug is, very probably, that I solved Odo's quest before being asked to do so by the Reverend (I got it through a drinking contest). The saved game just before that had Niku in it, and he disappeared just after I solved the quest.I am running Vista, if that helps.

can you try with another DVD drive, the game protection has the character locked in if something bad happens and it can not recognise the diskdo try to restart at least the Chapter, if not the whole game, given that you've just began anyway

I only have one DVD drive, so I can't do what you suggest.

Actually, I used the saved game I mentioned in my last post. This time, I solved Miku's quest after being told to do so by the Reverend, and everything worked perfectly.

I read another thread on the subject - so this bug is actually a malfunctioning copy protection scheme. This is very disappointing.I loaded the TAGES drivers - but this didn't solve the issues when the disk is not recognized when switching scenes, and the game freezes. The DVD drive on my HP computer is displayed as a generic drive, so there is no way to figure out what to update (and I am not particularly confortable "flashing" any "firmware" on my PC).I don't know for how long I can live with the game freezing or the constant worry that yet another character may just disappear. Another good game ruined by bad copy protection.

that is the way is should function, and if your dvd drive has problems, that is another thingit's a known fact that older drives have problems reading newer pressed disksabout the freezing, read: Getting tech help on the forum and attach that PCWizard report here as instructed

Ok so my other issue was solved after having to force restart my computer 7 times in a row, but I finally got into chapter 1. Did a whole bunch of quests, gained a whole bunch of money, etc. Finally had several quests pointing toward the reverend, but was having trouble finding him, until I noticed he was invisible. That's right invisible. As in, he follows his routine, and I can seen the blue text flowing above his head, but I can't see him, and therefore can't click on him. I try to walk through but i cant, so he is obvious there. Any fix ideas? (please oh please don't tell me to go back to a previous game, i've had enough grief already.) Maybe there is some sort of console command like "spawn 'Reverend_00". Thanks in advance.Oh and BIOS... PS: I saw other posts that were **similar** but not the same as mine with the reverend leaving the game, but mine is still technically present, which is why I made a new post

The same thing exactly like in this post. I have paid for both the original game and the enchanced one too. It's very frustrating, the invisible Reverend. I have tried to run the game on 3 different dvd-drives. I have restarted that chapter. Still :wall: HELP!

Enchanced DVD install one. I have not tried to patch up the original one. I did an experiment though. I copied the saved game from the Enchanced (at the end of the prologue) into the savegame folder of the original one (unpatched at all) on a different computer. Then express-ran to the Reverend's house - he got spawned alright!! I picked the quests from him and saved it. Then copied it back to the Enchanced. Reverend was still there!! However I went and guided Vesna home and then went to double-check on the old fart. HE WAS INVISIBLE AGAIN!!! :wall: Aaargghhhh... I have emailed to the ATARI support, but I don't have much hopes on the reply. I guess I may have to play the whole 1st chapter on the old original game : ((( SUX! But then, who will guarantee that there will be no other missing/invisible NPSs later on??!!Any help would be appreciated.P.S. I assume that me and LancerChronics had the option "Show object names" ticked, so we could see at least the name of the gramps. The other people must have had it offed, so they could see no sign of Reverend/Mikul at all. My Mikul was present btw.P.P.S. I dont see the point updating the Tages crapware since the game JUST got delivered, so it should install an actual version. Also my dvd drives do have the updated firmware, but I'm not gonna mess with downgrading them, cause it's just wrong and dangerous to mess with.

I figured the cause of the Reverend's misbehavior. I came across this branch http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=9063.45 (Reply by PlaneWalker #57). I have had several mods applied to the game, that do a similar result, in the opposite way though - augmenting Geralt. I dunno exactly which one did it. But after removing all of them and a restart the Reverend showed up properly.I feel quite ashamed by making a comple tw@t out of myself, a dirty cheater. Sorry Licaon  Thank you.Update: the root of evil was the file appearance.2da. I'm not certain which mod it was a part of.
