My game maybe glitched and fingers got amnesia from my punch, apparently and I can use him, He does have a legendary item, though I'm not sure if you can find it elsewhere.
If you can't get the item elsewhere just don't punch him and get the item, then punch/kill him lol. pretty sure he's the only ripper you can kill.

If it's the second one (not Fingers) that I think it is, yes, the game was trying to lead you down the path of looking the other way to where and how he was getting his stock. I shot him anyway, in the back, as he was running. Well deserved in the style of character I was playing.
Of all the things though, punching this guy once or twice is NOT where you feel "consequences" shall arise lol. Still, I'd be more unhappy had I not made sure I got hold of the iconic cockslapper, Sir John.

Has anyone else who DID have access to him as a ripper LOSE access later? I tried going back to him and his icon doesn't show up anymore and you only get a generic "talk" option where he says "did you forget something?"
I loaded an older save just to double check and he is indeed available. Not sure at what point i lost him.
