Romance and Sex in The Witcher 3

I was reluctant to post this thread, but here it is...

Since there has been no discussion about this, only small random discussions in random threads, I decided to put this thread and discuss the following:

1) What do you expect the sex scenes to be like in the Witcher 3??
2) what kind of approach to sex do you expect from Geralt?? Will he still have sex with every girl he sees??
3) Any other suggestions.

My opinion:

1) Yesterday I finished reading the Witcher saga and I can tell you that the sex scenes are so deep, intimate and beautiful. And that you can always find a reason, for Geralt to do it, though it may not be so simple. Sex is part of everyone's life, and I think it is an opportunity to show more of the characters and their relationships. I expect Geralt's sex scenes to be more intimate, and more special. I want them to feel real, and to reflect Geralt's affection to whom he is having sex with. Just like Geralt's sex with Yennefer in the books. Or with Fringilla. Those are great examples. I expect each sex scene to be different and well crafted. To reflect the kind of affection between them, and maybe add some talking afterwards. And take your time crafting those sex scenes, take inspirations from the books, and keep the same amount of nudity as The Witcher 2. It was okay and I don't think any Mature player found it offensive(that would be stupid).

2) I think Geralt's approach should be more reasonable. If he is in love with Triss or Yennefer, he shouldn't go around having sex with other woman. At least not so frequently. Each sex Geralt makes should have a reason. If it makes sense, then I don't mind it. Like maybe he suddenly had so much chemistry with a woman.

3) Something very important is the repetitive cut scenes during sex in the Witcher 2. I completely understand it when it comes to whores, I don't mind always showing us one of three or four variations when having sex with them. But some sex scenes deserve to be just as special as the one with Triss. For example, the sex scene with Ves in the Witcher 2. Ves is a very different character from other girls and I was bothered when it was the same as any other sex scene. And Cynthia as well. Those are special characters which should have special cut scenes for them. Also sex scenes should not always be in the same place.

Sex is beautiful and an important part of every character's life and I don't think it should be ignored or avoided. I don't think there's any problem with discussing it neither. The game is for mature audiences. Please feel free to discuss and share your suggestions about the three points above. Do you agree with what I said??

I think it is just fine for Geralt to have flings, because that is player choice.

I agree. Afterall, this not just about what Geralt would do, but also the player. My point is that in the past games, sometimes it wouldn't make sense.

Hmm I don't think Geralt will have many chances to have flings in this game. He has too many things to worry about.

But yeah sex scenes with Yennefer (or Triss) should be handled with care. I'm sure they will be too.

Geralt in the books very rarely had sex with women, because very few women were not actually scared of him. I agree that the sex scenes with Ves and Cynthia should have been paid more attention to, these characters are comparable with Essi Daven from the books. Also TW1 sex cards have already been declared a mistake, by CDPR. So running around having sex with every girl in town won't be in the game.

I think the plot will run so fast that player won't get to have a choice. I mean Geralt is trying first to find Yennefer, and then Ciri. Both have always been quite hard to locate. Especially Ciri. So I don't think Geralt will have much time for flings, even more so if one of the Sorceresses accompany him in his travel. I think that he will be travelling with witchers more though. And 5 travelling witchers look like a band of rogues. Not many women would approach them.

Well, I meant that he did not have sex as often as he does in the games. From what we know he has only been with Yennefer, Triss, Shani, Essi and Fringilla. And one time that he almost did it with a peasant girl, but was interrupted by Yennefer. All that in the span of 20 to 30 years. Not so often then.

Yes in 7 books Geralt has three serious relationships. I would say it's normal.
There's a saying that Geralt is womanizer because he has charm but charm =/= womanizer. A man can be fascinating (Geralt? AHAH) And charismatic but that does not mean that he has or want to have sex with so many women. Unfortunately, the games have given a mistaken view of all this, you know, the card system. and you have read the books so you should know. Ergo, Geralt has only three serious relationships, well... two and half. The rest:

- Iola: when Geralt is injured
- Zerrikanian girls: It was just a flirt, to have a good time together Borch.
- Renfri: Flirt
- Shani: HAHAH. *busted*

All this in 20 years or so. :coffee:

You forgot Iola, Renfri, Vea the Zerrikanian warrior, and some prostitute in Novigrad (although that wasn't shown. He and his pals were on the way to the brothel at the end of the story). Also, keep in mind that he often falls into bed with these women right after meeting them in the stories, and that we're only shown brief slices of his life. It's clearly implied that when he wasn't with Yennefer, Geralt didn't have that much trouble finding female companionship. It's obviously not to the extent of the first game, but he was hardly hurting either. Also, only one girl ever got scared off by his eyes (the peasant girl you mentioned above). Oh, and the stories and novels cover a period of about 15 years, not twenty.

Just one thing, there was a 15 year difference between Calanthe's banquet in Cintra and Geralt taking Ciri to Kaer Mohren. And the stories set before Cintra are not placed in time exactly. So I would say the books cover a period of time between 20 and 30 years.

I don't doubt Geralt could find a companion if he wanted, but I don't think he did very often. Not after Yennefer that is. He even had a really hard time with Essi Daven and that character was adorable. To me I guess.

You count 15 years if you consider from the story A question of price on, but there are other stories like A grain of truth and Lesser evil, and even The Last Wish (if you put it before what happened in Cintra) so I think it's more than 15 years. :yes

Well I think that sex with important characters will be treated with care and depth, following the TW2 model. And of course there will be prostitutes, so yeah Geralt will have sex with every whore in sight if the player decides so, no matter of what we think. Of course, people who want to stay faithful to the lore and the Geralt from the books are not gonna do that, but the opportunity is gonna be there. Definitely.

Not sure what you mean, in W3 it's barely been 2 years since Geralt was hunting sex cards in W1.

I am not sure that his change is due to his age, it might be due to the recollection of memory, he might find for more meaningful encounters.
In the witcher 1 geralt didn't had anything to hold him back. He felt close to triss and he find it hard to describe this feeling. in the witcher 2 the amount of encounters are reduced. and it might work the same in the witcher 3 (well we might have the opportunity to romance yeneffer) :cheers:

My wishes for sex scenes:
1. Make them unique for each character, at least the main ones. I want to see some personality and variation, like in real life, especially with the likes of Yennifer and Triss. Different positions, reactions, attitudes...etc. With prostitutes and other minor encounters, I'm fine with a little bit of recycling.
2. Use the actual voice actors for the sound assets in the sex scene. Hearing a generic prostitute moan coming out of Ves' mouth during her sex scene was a little off-putting.
3. Make the scenario itself, interesting. Don't just cut to Geralt and his partner banging for a few seconds and then fade out. The reason the elven ruins scene in TW2 was good was because of the build-up to the event.
