RT/PT issues megathread

+
This thread will collect ongoing issues with RT/PT and their status. I will keep the initial post up-to-date

So. We got some RT / PT bugs still, even after 1.62. Yeah, yeah, we got some mods fixing this stuff. These are engine related bugs, not driver related. Maybe it's too late to address it, but hope dies last

I can show my example issue with PT (Path Tracing) = Off. I hope I'm not the only one

If you turn on PT or use some mod and switch off GI (Global Illumination) the issue is gone.

But I don't want to play with PT On or GI off on my 3060, besides there are ppl, who don't play with graphical mods

I know there would be some answers like "Go get a mod", "it's native and non fixable", "Buy new GPU". But I just want you guys to post your issues with RT / PT vanilla game, maybe you got that bug too, or other annoying graphical bugs. This problem cannot be left alone, there are many places in the game where this kind of bugs appear in current game version.

I have the opposite question:
Are you using any mods, or have you ever used any in the past?

From the looks of it, it seems like awfully hard shadows being drawn in places they should not be. That could be a problem with specific areas in the game, the drivers you're using, or mods/reference data if you are or ever have used mods.

What is your desired graphical config? The 3060 is capable of doing 30-60 FPS with ray tracing at 1080p, but to get over 60 in most places, you'll need to run rasterized graphics.

Yeah, I'm using mods and used them in the past. I started new game (modded) with clean .ini files and ran on it again. I don't use any performance mods or any graphical mods except Ultra Mod, which I installed later after problem occured, so I was able to turn off Global Illumination to fix it. I guess GI is turned off with Path Tracing On. This problem appeared after patch 1.62, since then no drivers have solved it. There is an obvious conflict between the raster and the PT (which happens on more powerful GPU's with Path Tracing Off), we can also notice strange shadows on the swaying trees with RT/PT on till these days.

I run this game with RT on 2k with 30-40 fps which is fine

Hard to say what may be causing it, but it's not a specific problem that I've heard of. I've seen similar problems with textures not lining up or seams showing, but nothing creating stark shadows like that. The first go-to would be removing mods and creating a CLEAN install of the game, then begin a new game and speed through to areas that you know were problematic. If the shadows appear normal, then it's likely mods.

If not, a new game on a clean installation will verify that the problem is occurring in vanilla. At that point, I'd throw it CDPR Support's way.

Im currently sitting here with a 4090 and an amd ryzen 9 7900x3d and for some reason, ever since Phantom Liberty came out, whenever I turn on Raytracing and Path Tracing, my game freezes at the EXACT same moment in the bench mark, and about 30 seconds after starting a new game after character creation. Every. Single. Time.

Its been like this for months and I am at my wits end!

Ive done a clean install, used DDU and clean installed drivers, tried different install paths, updated BIOS, no overclocks. Idk what else to do.

You can also try different nvidia driver versions, as their recent drivers can be problematic for some games and pc setups.

That being said, as long as mods are not the culprit, issues like that can be reported to CDPR support with the official support website:

Sorry if this isn't the right thread to post it in, but I returned after not having played since 2.13 and noticed that my performance was worse at Ultra raytracing settings with DLSS Quality on my 3080 12GB.
Turns out we can use the new Transformer model or CNN which runs the same as before. Transformer being the default on my card now.
But, if I switch back to CNN, close and launch the game again, my performance will be bad again, ~50fps instead of ~60fps I get with CNN.
The in game settings will still say that CNN is selected. But if I switch to Transformer the performance will stay the same, then if I switch back to CNN again my performance will improve.
So the game is silently changing the DLSS Super Resolution Preset while showing the wrong option being selected.

I have to repeat this every time I launch the game. I tried deleting the UserSettings.json, setting it to read only, making sure the Nvidia App wasn't touching my game settings, using a new save, fresh install, etc.
As far as I can tell other settings will stay the same as I set them, but the DLSS Super Resolution Preset just doesn't.
Also, my UserSettings.json will still have the value being "Legacy", instead of Transformer, but in game it will just be using the new Transformer backend preset unless I switch to transformer and back.

Ok, I tried a few more things and I think I finally got the game to respect my UserSettings.json settings & DLSS preset/backend.
I had to switch to a different upscaling method, like FSR 3.1, click apply, then I could switch back to DLSS and the game would use the CNN model even after launching the game again.
Not sure why it was the case but the issue is seemingly fixed now.

There is a ton of graphical bugs and corruption in the current version of the game.
Here is just one example of what can go wrong.

You can get rid of the bug by disabling RT lighting.
With path tracing it also happens and there is no way to get rid of it.
