The source of that rumour right now:

Seriously though, I wouldn't be surprised if EA eventually came knocking. They're satanic that way. Rumor is they don't even make offers anymore. They just hand game designers briefcases full of money in exchange for their souls.

And those studios that don't get shut down end up resorting to distasteful practices such as microtransactions, always on-line functionality, paid DLC, unnecessary multiplayer, etc. BioWare is already down this path.

BioWare still exists? I thought post 2010 they became EAWare, BioWare's evil doppelganger.

EA had the tittle "Worst company" a few times..no need to ask why....

^Just look at Dragon Age Inqusition to get a glimpse what EA could mean for the next CDP game.
DRM (Origin+ Denuvo), overpriced "story" dlc(15€), overpriced armour dlc (5€), microtransactions, pointless multiplayer, different release days depending on the region you life, different ingame content depending on the version you buy, exclusive content (xbox and ea early access in dragon age's case), no mod support and pandering towards every possible group which exists to get as much sales as possible (and fail with it)
And not to forget the game would be trimmed to be as politically correct as possible. Though CDP seems to go that way anyway.

Here is a list of studios that used to be independent and then were bought and subsequently shut down by EA:

It's worth bearing in mind that the studios which were acquired by EA all had one thing in common: they were cash strapped. CDPR is not.

Bioware joined forces with Pandemic Studios in 2007 under the umbrella of Elevation Partners and VG Holding Group. This partnership was then later purchased by EA. The acquisition was made on the heals of Jade Empire, a mediocre PC title which didn't garner much critical acclaim or profits. With the increasing costs of developing games, and a desire to branch out into console development, it was pretty much a necessary evil at the time.

CDPR has GoG as a steady and lucrative source of income, they've already successfully transitioned into the console market, and Wild Hunt just sold more copies than pretty much every Bioware title leading up to their acquisition in 2007 combined.

Okay then. Since we're now going heavily into off-topic territory, it's time this thread got closed. Sticky's right there ^

Unless you're not using the default 10 posts per page format, in which case I dislove you with a passion.
