I got a little confused by that too. The forum thread with the trailer mentions V, a cyberpunk. Then I saw the hidden message and it mentions character creation. We'll hopefully get more info tomorrow from those at the booth.

So hyped!

V is most likely going to be the alias given to our character just so other characters can call him/her something, and when other characters ask for a name, the player character can give them something.

Just like JC Denton is not the actual name of the player character in Deus Ex, just his code name. I guess "V" will be our street name.

I do love the 80's punk fashion asthetic, that was done very well. I think the problem with the brightness is that it makes it look to much like GTA in atmosphere, rather than one normally associates with cyberpunk. Just watch Mike Pondsmith video talking about cyberpunk and right at the beginning he is talking about dark, gritty, rain filled foggy streets and how he wanted to bring that into cyberpunk. So it seems odd to go the bright city route, maybe it has a wide array of different weather affects which will cover everything, which would be nice.

After watching it again, I do worry that the missions will just about be all action based, instead of giving alternative solutions like stealth, hacking, subterfuge...etc to solve problems. I prefer my characters to be smart and avoid violence, but it is way to early to judge, based only on a trailer.

Well, it became his real name, but in the first game it wasn't.

He even says so in game. "JC is an old code name, but it seems to have stuck"

There is a point in the trailer, a blink-and-you'll-miss-it, where someone gets their brain fried and you see the MC pulling a cord out of their head elsewhere. It seems to hint hacking is indeed in.

Personally the aesthetic that I've seen thus far is right up my alley and exactly what I was hoping for. I like the punk being put back into cyberpunk and I like the bright neon colors straight out of the 80's mixed in with the corporate dominated city and of course the look of things will get much darker when the sun goes down.

I'd be inclined to agree, also with the following after the quoted part.

But let's face it, it can't always be night (and rainy, foggy, etc).

If I saw right, the inner city districts or commercial ones were not really shown, only hinted at in some scenes perhaps. Those, in turn, could look vastly different in the day and if not, then perhaps at night. Perhaps we primarily saw the gritty zones - during day, mostly (one is at Dusk, I think).

Let's see what other footage will show us in the future. I'm still happy, finally something less abstract with game footage.

There's also that scene on a plane where some guy is getting their brain fried and the MC is sitting across from him, smiling smugly to himself.

I don't think the MC in that scene did anything himself, but he sure paid someone to do it.

Edit: That wasn't a plane, that was a shuttle. You can see Earth in the window.

"Denton" definitely isn't a codename; his brothers are Alex Denton and Paul Denton. Also, if you don't alter the default settings, his default real name is "JC Denton."

Here's a screenshot of the game with no alterations, clicks, or anything beyond heading straight into starting a new game:

Watched the video a few times with the sound off (seriously, I hope we can choose a different VO for our character). Few things I noticed.

* Apparently news papers still exist, you see it on the seat at the beginning.
* Smart phones are in, although they look surprisingly clunky.
* At the 39 mark, the guy in the seat is probably the PC since he has the same jacket.
* At 42 I think they are all prostitutes, the guy being beat up looked like he had a gun next to him so not sure what that is about.
* At the 50 mark with the girl doing the eyeliner. For a brief moment it is in first person view, so probably the player character.

I wonder if we can actually go into the places we see or will it be like GTA with cardboard buildings and only a few places you can actually go into. I will be slightly disappointed if it is the later. Also, it looked like there is a gym, if we work out, do our stats increase?

Why is a trauma team vehicle blowing somebody away at 1:16?

Most likely extracting someone, Trauma Teams usually have to grab their clients from a hostile enviroment, so maybe the punks were in their way.

well on one hand, no release date even confirming year at least is suspicious, makes it seem like the game COULD be a long time away.

But on the other hand, if the game is really that far off, it doesn't make much sense for them to come out at this E3 in such full force, not worth risking bringing the hype back after so many years only to let it die down again until release.

I still trust a 2019 release, but maybe on May.

This was one of the main things I was confused about - not even giving a year or season.

I'm hoping they give us more details at their E3 booth.

I wouldn't worry too much about the date. They got burned with two delays last time. They did say in the "secret message" that
"When we told you we would only release the game when it’s ready, we meant it. We’re definitely much closer to a release date than we were back then ;) but it’s still not the time to confirm anything, so patience is still required. Quality is the only thing that drives us. It’s the beauty of being an independent studio and your own publisher."

I still think this is a 2020 release, and probably next gen. Microsoft said earlier that they already planning their next console and both Starfield and Elder Scrolls VI were announced/teased as next gen.

I really hope it is this year, that would be best since there really is nothing out there that can compete with it.

Fair 'nuff.

Though I think it'd be smarter to just wait until the game is closer to release before showing it off to begin with. When you can confidently say "This game is basically done, the bugs will be probably be fixed in 5 months," that's (IMO, of course) when you should be showing it to the public.

If it's still a "F*ck if I know" type of situation... would prefer to see it closer to its finished stage. But I know they basically had to show something this year, and I know it's not going to be 3 years till it comes out, so I'll just be patient.

Won't be this year, unfortunately. At least, it's very unlikely. They said they wouldn't do a "flash" marketing campaign (~5 months or so).

Plus, if it was going to be this year, they'd almost certainly give us a release date at E3. That does wonders for marketing/hype. "The game is releasing in 6 months, folks!"
