I actually liked Saskia's speech in English. I thought she emphasized the right points, without being too over the top about it.

TBH, I prefer english Saskia's voice. Like others have said, this one just sounds like it was overacted/too exaggerated. In general, Polish Saskia sounds too crude, it does give the sense that she is played by an amateur who cant quite nail the expressions.

She SHOULD sound crude, that's the thing. Have you ever seen an officer in the army shouting at you?

Eastern Europeans have harsh voices in general.

I am very grateful that The Witcher 2 can be played with english subs + polish audio. It is amazing how the game quality can change so much if you play it with the original language of the story homeland.

Just compare Saskia freedom speech in Polish from the youtube video below with her english voice version. In english version Saskia voice is too soft, not even close to the passion of a freedom revolutionary well depicted at the Polish voice version.

I didn't realise you could do that :p I hate to say it, but the Polish voice does seem more powerful, though I would argue that the English voice also has it's own type of charm. They both have their relative merits I would think.

Yes, but she isn't supposed to be an army officer, she is supposed to be a charismatic leader, as described by the codex entry and everyone you talk to. When giving the speech, maybe she should sound crude, but all the time? Nope, not her character. Which is why I prefer english Saskia overall.

When a king say No gently, a few of people dare to show their nonconformity with an concealed movement of eyebrown. When a Witcher say No gently, nobody dare to show their nonconformity. But when a Dragon say No gently (even in human appareance) nobody is able to have a spike of nonconformity. This Saskia speaks like a human rebel woman, not as a sure and convinced Dragon. Remember that if Saskia if able of gathering all that no warrior people is because the spirit Dragons leads her thoughts and her words, and, obviously, her heart.

I think she really no need to speak-yell like a Braveheart leader. She is a Dragon, she should be imposed only with their gentle but relentless words.

Indeed has the feeling that the expression of voice is exaggerated. However, it is because the animation and facial expression is too small.

The expression of the voice is good, but too bad that facial expressions and gestures so responds poorly to emotional voice.

Can not compare! is easier to refine a human voice to fit in a facial expression to get an artificial facial expression fit into an emotional human voice. Not to mention the economic cost.

PS
BTW, Greek actors wore masks, their performance were get it by finding harmony between intonation voice and tested gestures. ... So, by the moment, actor has the duty of make its character credible fitting his/her voice correctly with what is seen on the screen of dubbing studio.

I agree, I can only admire the skill of professional actors who have been studying for years. I am more used to seeing these roles in books, so my judgment is not the best informed in all likelihood. :)
I think I still stand by my original opinion though.

True, Saskia is indeed a symbol of goodness and a way for a dream come true, some may consider a gentle speech better than a harsh one.

I guess it is really up to each player expectation. I consider Saskia being a dream + war leader and the speech being made at the middle of a bloody battle, no place for soft tones imo. But again, one could feel exactly the opposite, the gentle words of charismatic leader lifting up people hopes for a better future.

Not her character? What do you think Saskia is a gentle rose? She is a fearsome beast, no matter how noble her heart might be, and she leads an army. No matter what stupidity might be shown in movies in reality the charismatic leaders in history ( Joan the Arc, Caesar, Napoleon, Alexander the Great etc. ) sounded harsh.

Did you be there? cause chronics are like painted portraits: always show the powerfull people better that they really were
And encourage the masses is not equal to yell them (specially if you remember that in that time the only PA system was their own lungs).

They yelled a lot and quite loudly at that, how else would the massive crowds hear them? People have misconceptions about great historical figures but modern historians have a spent a long time assessing the truth from lies. It is a misconception for instance to think of Alexander the Great as a great man when he was a very nasty person who murdered and butchered people and also drank a lot and went to whores quite often.

If you look too closely at heroes, you will usually find that they have feet of clay. This has little to do with how they would address an army before battle (assuming they're sober and have thought through what they are going to say).

But I agree with Costin: if you want a large assembly to hear you, you are going to have to raise your voice. If you want to motivate an army that thinks it is already defeated, you are probably going to have to raise your voice. But not everybody has a spinto or drammatico voice. Most of us would get pretty shrill if we tried to make the entire Aedirnian Voluntary Militia hear us and take us seriously in similar circumstances.

The english version for reference.

And in my opinion, the English version is so much better. Softspoken yet stern.

Some thing is sure: WORST version must be SPANISH one.

I speak spanish, but I couldn't play The Witcher 1 in my language, because voices SUCKED!!!

All characters looked like IDIOTS.

I play in english with subtitles... and I think voices are really good... Geralt rules!!!
