Saved game not actually saving progress (spoilers)

I ran a search for this but no one else seems to be having the same problem. I'm in Vizima doing the investigation quests. I only had to find 2 more Sephirah when I saved but now I'm back to only having 3 and many of my other quests have reset as well. I have one manual save file and a few auto save files and they all have the progress reset. What is causing this? I have the Steam version, Win7 64 Pro running bootcamp on an iMac.

This is the first i have heard of this type of issue but You may want to do a file integrity check through steam and try disabling autosave and do manual saves only . It could be possible that you have a corrupted save and the rest are snowballing because of the one bad one

Ran the integrity check and everything was ok. I shut off autosave and it seems to be working so far. Thanks for the reply. Still unsure what caused this.

Well it was working fine. I saved after doing a few quests involving Salamandra in the swamp and when I loaded the game I was back in New Narakort at the party. Any other suggestions?

Not exactly sure where the problem may lie . You could try a disc check to rule out any bad sectors on the disc .Or if you can register your game i could send you a saved game to see if the same thing happens or you could reinstall the witcher with antivirus temporarily disabled

This is a Steam version and I installed it after a fresh install of Win 7 x64 before I even put the anitvirus in. I actually downloaded a save from the market because I was so frustrated at having to redo everything. If this keeps up I think I'm just going to see if someone has the cut scenes so at least I can get the story before Witcher 2.

Just anything that will give me the story to the game so I'm not lost in part 2. But I think I found the culprit. I just went on to play and the same thing happened but before I shut down last night I made a backup copy of the save folder on my desktop. That folder along with another file I had are missing. So I think this is an issue with Windows and not a problem with the game. Unfortunately, I lost my progress yet again.

There should be a way to repair your windows installation while keeping all files and settings intact . I know i saw it somewhere , let me see if i can find it and i will edit to add when i do EDIT TO ADD : here it is just be sure to read it through very thoroughly before attemptinghttp://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html

Hello!I have the exact same problem.I noticed late in act II that I could hand in quests like "The Ghoul Contract" each time i talked to Kalkstein, but I didn't think more about it.Now in chapter 3 the game seems very broken. And I can't finish "the source" quest. I've tried all my saves from chapter 3 and it doesn't get me thru the event where I'm following Dandelion and rescues Alvin. I'm using the Steam EE version in WinXP.Have you found any solution to this? And if not, is there a possibility to get a savegame from the start of Chapter 3?My game should be registered, I did use the register witcher app that came with the steam version (How can I actually check that it is?)

Hello Cluthzwelcome onboard and thanks for registering your game. You can see whether the game is registered or not if you hover the mouse cursor upon your avatar on the left here. A small wolf medallion symbol should appear. That means that the game is registered.So... Congratz!!!About your tech problem:please, read How to get tech help in the forum, run PC Wizard, then attach the report as instructed.

Hey thanks for a quick reply! The game havent been crashing for me at all.It seems like its due to a corrupt save game somewhere along the line. After looking around Ive seen a few other reports on similar issue:http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=18782.0I found a savegame on the savegame market that was pretty close to my own progress so I went with that after trying a few of my older saves. After playing a few hours on the downloaded savegame I realize that I also lost quite some of the action at the banquet on my own save, so Im glad the game stopped up where it did so I didnt have to replay even more.

I am having a similar issue I contacted tech support at Atari and they gave me a link to here. I can see autosaves and save fine but if I shut the game down and restart it they appear to be gone. I am running it on Windows 7 Ultimate and fixed the issue with compatibility. Anyone help? Thank you

I ran into this problem as well (on Windows 7 64-bit). It's happened twice so far. I'm not sure what causes it. But, I can tell you what I do to help minimize the occurrence of it. Go to your savegame folder and either move or delete old saves. Personally, as long as I have less than 200 savegames in the folder, the game will save just fine (whether on autosave or if I manually save). As an added precaution, I check inventory and quest items whenever I launch the game.

*LOL* Yeah, well, I didn't want to leave just 5 or less in the folder. =P
