Savegames location

I want to back up my saved games, but I can't find where they are located. Does anyone know? Thanks.

While on the topic....Is it 'safe' to go in there and delete saves at will ?

I think it is best to do it within the game at the save game screen so you don't delete a save you might have needed.Ariakas

This is a technical mathers IMO :) I will move this to in game tech.Yes you can delete them directly from the directory but if you want to be safe, do it from in the game :)It is better to keep only 2 or 3 save at a time in that directory BTW.

It will help on loading time and reduce crash... It is something they will need to look into... More savegames you have in the directory, more problems you will get !

You could do what I've always beem doing to make sure I don't lose a single save but also need to clean up the save folder...Use a Zip Program (i.e. WINRAR) and zip the save folder which shrinks about 80% of the total disk space (i.e. Save files taking up 10GB, Zipping it will reduce it to around 2GB), or copy the folder all together to another place on the HDD (if you have the space). After that go into the folder and click View>Details (Option to the right of File and Edit for XP Home/Pro anyway), this way you can see which ones were the most current saves you made and delete the ones prior to it.If you deleted the wrong save file, at least you have them backed up in a ZIP file or the back up folder you copied to another part of the HDD.

I recently deleted a whole mess of saves from the save folder and didn't see any ill effects. In fact, those saves were about 6 Gb worth of space. Even now, I have about 1.5 Gb worth of saves in there.Note that the game keeps every save you make, not just manual saves and quicksaves, but also autosaves from the moment you start playing. The huge amount of saves also contributes to the amount of time it takes to get into the load/save screen ingame.I say keep what you want and delete the rest. It's easiest from the OS, but make sure you sort them from "date created" so you know you're deleting those that are older than your current saves.I was a little uncertain about the one that's in a folder. I just left that one alone.

you mean on the drive itself, or where they are written to in game code?If you're asking about the physical storage location, it's always in Documents folder of the account the Witcher is installed on.

Hi - A quick question, which is probably already answered somewhere but I can't find it! How do I get at my saved games so that I can back them up to another pc in case things go seriously wrong?Cheers,Chris

Hi 9509chris :beer:The default path for Witcher saves is: C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\My Documents\The Witcher\saves, also accessible via ...\My Documents\The Witcher\saves :)

You should also make another directory for your saved games and only keep 2 to 3 savegames maximum in the default folder, this will reduce your load time while zoning :)
