Scabbard Mod - choose kind of scabbards

We're in advanced phase of creating this mod. Scabbards will appear in the game soon. But we've got small problem. Part of team thinks that we should to make new models for all scabbards. Part of team thinks that we could use some of RED "half-scabbards" - these one that REDs left in the game resources.Picture presents mostly our models and "half-scabbards" created by RED (14,15,16). We want your opinion: which kind of scabbards we should use?

Scabbards? You're about to make some people VERY happy! ;)Congratulations on making something people have wanted for awhile! It seems to me that witchers are all about function with little care for appearance, so I would expect a witcher to have a very plain scabbard, one designed to hold the sword and nothing else. So I'd expect it to be plain brown leather, kinda like Geralt's armor. While your scabbards all look cool, I'd say they're too fancy for a witcher. I'd actually expect Geralt to be somewhat scornful or contemptuous of fancy folks who carry their swords in something that looks like jewelry. Any chance of plain brown leather?

o_O Holy smokes. I never thought someone would try to do some scabbards. When this works, it really will improve the look.Actually I think, because the Witcher earns his daily bread with his sword, he prolly will take good care for it, so I assume both swords (but especially the more precious silver sword) are in some protective scabbard, which covers the whole blade. Uhm, yes, and it possibly is just a rather plain, used leather scabbard without much design or jewlery on it as it mostly just follows a practical function.

Plain brown leather? It depends of our graphics. We'll probably make new textures for several swords. The first post is updated with new image.

Excellent work. How exactly will this work then? I mean, I remember I´ve seen the resources stuff somewhere, but always asked myself why the developers didn´t use the scabbards in the final cut?Was it complicated to implement? Did it look (although some screen shots show the scabbards) strange? Kamil, I´m looking forward to see it working.[btw: GERALT, it´s no problem you didn´t have a scabbard at all, even newer games don´t give a **** http://image.jeuxvideo.com/images/pc/r/i/risen-pc-080.jpg and use the magical invisible one!]

I'll translate post of k4myk for youhttp://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=25885.msg5346444#msg5346444"HiI'll explain case with scabbardsLong, long time age in year 2006 witcher gained sword scabbards. In those times Geralt had only 3 swords: silver one and steel one. Plus 4 animations: 2 for drawing sword and for putting in. Steel sword is 1,2 m long - 1 meter of blade. Correct drawing from the back such piece of steel required some acrobatics (animation with tossing a sword). Later appeared problems that caused removing scabbards. Many swords in the game - for each somebody has to make new scabbard.Different shapes of weapons - different animations - drawing of curved blade should looks differently from drawing normal or toothed* sword.Specific situations: we've 1 sword in the hand, we're getting second one from the ground, scabbard on the back isn't fitting... have to "magically" change model for another...Solution chosen by us was the simplest one.In other games are 2 possibilities. Many weapons and magnets (Gothic) or not many weapons and animation for each scabbard (AC).This issue is present in TW2 too... But now we've more important things to do.Cheersk4myk"*I hope that's good word ;)PS I'm playing Risen right one and lack of scabbards is no problem for me. Like in The Witcher ;)

Hi! Yes, I can hear you and see the issue here. Personally, I can do without - I actually really got other problems in game [for instance: not getting killed] and after a while you really forget the scabbards are not there. Hmm, right, curved blades really need a different drawing style... but also combat would actually be different (I never liked them...

Really a complicated question - I like them all. Is it possible for you to make also "closed" versions of the RED half-scabbards?

*gets jealous*Great scabbards! Looking forward to this.I agree with Corylea about the "plain leather". If possible I do think that the scabbards could represent their users standing. While the elves may be poor, their craftsmanships is good, so the scabbards would be pretty. Similar with the Order swords.Actually I like all the scabbards shown, except the last one. It reminds me of some sort of vegetable...?!? :teeth:Great job. May I ask how the scabbards are implemented? Are they somehow part of the swords (like in Oblivion) or somehow different?edit: Also, would this affect the extra adventures and any fan created ones?

Of course. It's no problem. :peace:

Each sword has been automically asigned with one scabbard. 1 sword = 1 scabbard.

Unfortunately, this does not affect the adventures that were not created by us. But if they are accompanied by additional files, in other adventures will also work. :)

Hmmm, I beg you pardon if I have got this wrong but...this means scabbards will not work in the original storyline?

Oh, of course the scabbards will work in the original storyline. :teeth:I meant only adventure in the quoted statement.

After your opinions, we decided to publish mod with 2 installation options:1. Install all IFRIT scabbards.2. Install all IFRIT scabbards except two: for steel and silver sword.

*sighs of relief* Oh, that's great, you had me worried for a moment there! ;D

13, 14, 15, and 16 look the best for a witcher in my opinion. the others look really great, and i think they would look really cool as part of the elves and other npcs. awesome work, can't wait to download!

I think you should make scabbards 1 and 8 more detailed except that they are all great. Were just waiting for the mod to be realesed ;D

Mod will be released... soon. Really.Thank you for your answers. We're creating scabbards for all swords. Topic closed, the new one for the mod... soon ;)
