Screen Res 5:4, UI cropped to widescreen aspect ratio?

I'm using an older Benq monitor with a 5:4 resolution (1280x1024) and was first very surprised and happy that CDProjekt Red decided to optimize for those viewports, too :) No black borders, no horrible to use UI, it was great to look at and use.
During a surprise attack by bandits that were +5 levels above me, I somehow managed to hit a strange combination of buttons (which I don't know what I pressed) and now I have the following problem:

My screen resolution is still the same, but when I'm...
a) changing my spells through TAB, the screen doesn't go all faded in the background but leaves about 1,5cm of unblurred gameplay on the top and bottom
b) User menu (inventory, map, etc) all are now cropped to widescreen with black bars
c) Under settings/video you can change the viewport but it is already set to max and thinks I'm using a 16:9 aspect ratio
d) The game now always starts in borderless windowed mode, setting it to fullscreen won't stay till the next launch.

I like my Monitor and would like to play like before, any clues on how to tackle this? Please? :)

A few more info's to the system:
Windows 7, using the Witcher bought @ GOG.com, input is Mouse & Keyboard only.

I have the same problem. Screens with inventory/quests/etc are displaying as widescreen so i have black stripes on top and bottom of the screen so it tooks almost 30%. That makes it almost unreadable. You are giving me hope saying that u had those screens streched to fullscreen on 1280x1024 resolution.
I just dont know where to set that setting.

It must be somehow related to the viewport aspect ratio, but there is no such command in the user.settings...

Here are the first lines of my user.settings:

[Hidden]
HasSetup=true
uiVerticalFrameScale=0.9975
uiHorizontalFrameScale=1
[Localization]
SpeechLanguage=DE
TextLanguage=DE
[Viewport]
VSync=true
Resolution="1280x1024"
FullScreenMode=2
VSyncThreshold=0
OutputMonitor=-1

And yes, I tried changing uiVerticalFrameScale to 1 aswell but that didn't change anything.

To have all descriptions readable im playing at 1280x800 nresolutions to eliminate those black bars on inventory screens.
But thats nor comfortable cause the game is streched and cause of that looks strange.
If like Evolon said its possible to play comfortable on 5:4 monitors I want that settings :)

Sorry guys, but I think it's time to buy new monitors.

It already worked perfectly fine for me as I already stated in the opening post. There's just some wierd bug with it that I couldn't revert back to the original (working) settings.

I'm not suggesting you need a new monitor because yours doesn't work. I'm suggesting it because you're stuck in the past. :)

Can confirm the wrong aspect ratio for UI background overlays. Added some screenshots.

Bottom-left popup notifications also can appear in the negative margins of the frame, barely seen in some instances.

I have this happen from time to time, I fixed it by changing my desktop screen resolution from 1360x768 to 1920x1080. No idea why this works for me, but give it a shot :)
