Screenshot: A bath in elven ruins

No great story is complete without a hint of love. Or… at the very least, some sort of emotional stuff. Today we present a SCREENSHOT that contains absolutely zero blood, no swords, and not even a boring old forest.[pagebreak] You will, however, find Geralt and Triss Merigold surrounded by beautiful red roses, enjoying the camaraderie that can only exist between two people taking a naked swim together. As with so many things in the world of The Witcher, these roses aren’t just there to tell a story of love.

That sounds interesting... will it be explained in the game?

Maybe it's an analogy? Roses and thorns, beauty and danger, love and pain...

Nevertheless blood is involved. Love and longing is in the air. it stir up Geralt's and Triss' blood.I admit... it's a wonderful picture.

oh, this is heart rendering. Are you a kind of poet or bard who wants to compete with Dandelion? :)

Since these are elven ruins, this is probably a reference to the story of the Rose of Shaerrawedd from the books. Shaerrawedd was the palace of Aelirenn (who was known as the White Rose), who led the elven youth into a hopeless uprising against humans long ago (she's mentioned in the first game, and the Scoia'tael tend to shout her name in battle). Elves would later visit the ruins of Shaerrawedd in rememberance. White roses still grow there, and bloom throughout the whole year, more beautiful then ever, even though they should have long gone wild since no one's tending to them. The roses in the game are red, which might mean this is not Shaerrawedd but another elven ruin, with a different species of rose. Either that, or the roses actually changed colour for some magical, symbolic reason: remember, before Jacques de Aldersberg the Order of the Flaming Rose was called the Order of the White Rose.

I wouldn't dream of it, especially since I'm tone deaf, can't play an instrument, and am not so good at poetry. :pGiven Geralt's track record with women in general, and sorceresses in particular, his relationship with Triss is bound to end in a complete mess at some point. A beautiful romance, that's bound to draw "blood". Somehow I can't see it ending well.

This piece is one of my favorites from Blood of Elves. When Geralt tells this story to Ciri. It 's very touching (or moving? Anyway, you know what i mean). Many times in books and games i feel a little bored when the characters are talking about their past, or even worse, about their nations past. But Sapkowski knows how to do all things right.

You hit the nail on the head! I found this passage in 'Blood of Elves' very moving as well. I hope the elven ruins refer to Shaerrawedd because I'd like to learn more about this place... or just go back there (in the game).

Nice, looks very "Emotionally Engaging" as Ray Muzyka would say.Though I'm still waiting for more entries to be added in the "Characters" section :p

Ha! Now as you explicitly mention the roses... The roses of Shaerrawedd flashes into my mind. But these roses aren't red o_O Nevertheless they are special roses, they stand for Aelirenn, the 'White rose of Shaerrawedd". And these roses have more to tell than a lovestory.

Interesting, and potentially destructive. Maybe the wrong choice will trigger the ice age predicted by the grandmaster? :p
