One thing I find strange.
If they are going for a mature audience I don't see why instances of gratuitous nudity and sex should not be included.
I think its more the line of anything that doesn't serve world building or the story is just fluff. its not just about sex. It applies to everything. It's immersion breaking if the game just starts throwing opportunities for debauchery at you just to be edgy when it serves no purpose to the roleplaying. and if it serves a purpose to the role playing, then no amount of sex is really gratuitous. Its like the difference between sexually explicit literature like Crash and trashy romance novels that exist just as porn in practice.
"Mature" isn't the same as "must include explicit content". There Will Be Blood is a movie for mature audiences, but there's almost no violence and no sex at all in the movie. Its a mindest, not a rider for including edgy things.
. People love saying "The nudity and sex always needs to be tasteful and have narrative purpose!" but for the world to feel real, and if it is intended for adults - why?
if it actually serves the world building, then it is tasteful and has a narrative purpose. but making it natural is the issue. you cant just have the protagonist bang every person he or she meets. the situations have to feel natural.
but I never understood why some level of just pure gratuitous sex or nudity is considered bad.
.
the word "gratuitous" literally explains this in its definition.
Both men and women have the same lusts and needs, and in real life people hook up for the pleasure of sex and watch porn all the time.
Sure, and if it serves character and world building I don't think anyone cares, but its gonna be a bit forced if all of the sudden I'm playing a minigame to jerk off while watching porn.
The dosage lies in the poison. As with Game of Thrones, there is fair amount of it. And it feels realistic because of it. But they never overdid it. .
I don't think it feels realistic because of it. I think it works because the rest of the world was built in such a way to justify it. it wasn't what made the world feel real, it felt real because of the world.
People often seem to view sex and nudity as something vile and negative instead of positive and natural. If CDPR implements it in the world in a natural way, it would be a huge positive. But in this day and age it's like...
"Reviewer: OMFG I JUST SAW A NAKED BOOB AND IT DIDN'T HAVE A NARRATIVE PURPOSE! CDPR IS USING SEX TO SELL THEIR VILE GAME! GRATUITOUS NUDITY SOMEONE CALL THE POPE!"
literally never seen this unless someone's complaining about it being used as pure fan service. no one really
complains about it unless they feel like its used exploitively. for example, no one complained about the sex in The Witcher 3 (minus Polygon and Anita Sarkessian, but they're clowns anyways.). The DID complain about it in The Witcher 1. why? The sex was more explicit in The Witcher 3. but in that game, the women were treated like fully formed characters, while in the Witcher 1, Women were seen as literally collectables, and the sex wasn't treated as something the characters wanted, but as merely a task for Geralt to complete.
THAT is the only time I see people complain about sex. When its not there for a reason, and just there as a thinly veiled excuse to show a sex scene.
I mean come on. For example, a hooker on the corner with 2 big breasts hanging out is not a big deal. Yet people make it a big deal.
Yeah no one's really cared about that since like, GTA III.
