Yeah, that is true. Geralt is shirtless several times in the game - hell, it's the opening shot. I'm more talking about underwear though. Yen's FULLY naked on at least two separate occasions, where Geralt's wearing those gross granny panties of his. However, on the whole, the game does seem less progressive in the nudity/sex department than W2, for both genders.

And then the whole Ciri thing. Nudity =/= sexuality. Did anyone take those old woman boobs int he sauna as sexual? Or the bruxa in the Night to Remember trailer? She was naked, but certainly not to get jiggy with Geralt. I understand them wanting to portray Ciri as a daughter figure, but then that's knocked flat when you get the opportunity to proposition Skjall for some quality time in the stables. And Yen is a mother figure, but is still sexualised, so why not Ciri? She's an adult, and it even mentions Mistle (her love in the books for those who don't know) in the sauna if you walk in without a towel.

That's the reason I also have a problem with the sauna scene, since it's neither realistic (yea, it's fantasy but there is such a thing as internal realism) nor in line with the artistic consistency the other games in the series followed. So why was it done? To reach higher mass market appeal? Mot likely... it can't be due to technical reason.

This I agree with. Nudity is far too often taken as sexual even when it isn't. Part of that is in the US ads use nudity too often. Like a jewlery company in KY having a topless girl to advertise rings. She has her arm over her breasts but still.

Even that is starting to change... I've noticed in recent months that certain marking campaigns start to avoid female primary/secondary sexual characteristics and shift their focus to things like hands, feet and necks. There is definitely a neo-puritan leaning creeping into the media from western society, slowly but surely.

Yeah and it's because of situations like that. I'd understand if the add was for necklaces (sorta) to be topless but rings?

I'm actually referring to local brand of mineral water in my country, that always had a rather... sensual... marketing strategy.

How so? I know the Succubus is an example but overall I think it's just as good as TW2.

I think the "16 hours of mocap sex" set up this expectation that Witcher 3 would basically have full sex scenes, or more developed/explicit than W2 or other games. It sounded from marketing/etc that they'd be pushing the boundaries even further than they did with W2, and it's sat at the same level, and maybe even taken a step back. They even showed a suggestive screenshots of Triss (her lying on her back in the trailer) that has yet to appear in the game. It just overall feels like they stripped some sexual content because of the media. A lot of sex scenes (ie prostitutes) are recycled animations that look similar to animations form the previous game, and there's not actual "sex" - just a buttshot and some light petting shown.

I'm not annoyed that there's not as much sex in my game as I want there to be, I'm just disappointed that the view of putting sex in a video game is considered a great evil or sin, while Geralt slicing human beings in half goes on without comment or concern. It's the principle of the content rather than the actual content itself.

Honestly, after seeing the first sex scene with Keira Metz I searched for the same scene on youtube to check out if I accidentally got a censored version of the game. This was not something I expected from a Witcher game. Especially the shot directly after made me suspicious
According to the books (Sabrina) and Witcher 2 (Cynthia) Keira is supposed to be a nymphomaniac. So her putting on her full underwear directly after she had sex with Geralt felt a bit out of place.

It seems CDP thinks now the Witcher playerbase can't handle nudity anymore.
But I'm happy they still think we are capable of handling violence.

Does anybody else think there is something seriously wrong with this screens? Showing Keira naked `seems to be a big no-go but showing her impaled in a very brutal way seems to be perfectly fine.

Nah man, I know exactly what you mean. In fact, I have the perfect solution for you. Just five really easy steps.

1. Start Witcher sex scene.
2. Pause game.
3. Find porn online.
4. Jerk off.
5. Resume game.

Boom. Solved your problem right there. Didn't even take me more than a minute to figure it out.

Well, he is right...
Its an Game for Adults and CDPR said once before The Witcher III was released in an interview, that Nudity and Sex is a part of The Witcher Series...
And they will not go away from it and will not change it....And now you see the result....
Its not really what it's supposed to be and what they announced...

but at least we can now divide people ....

Yeah, CDPR has become a parody of itself when it comes to the sex scenes in the game. They play the "we have matured from W1/W2" card, yet the second thing we see in the game is Yens naked ass. Its like they desperately want to pretend they are an american studio, where you can show gore all day long but as soon as you see a nipple its "whoo, thats so controversial!" which is pretty hypocritical tbh.

And if they DO show sex in game, it feels absolutely out of place and forced as hell. "Hey, I won a Gwent tournament, lets have sex!", "Hey, I kicked your ass, lets have sex!"

Then again, nothing modders wont be able to fix anyway.

Console platform won't have access to the mods. So, it's still unfair

But the thing is that they have matured and they have created a game that does not need to be the kinky sex game to get headlines. Sex is just a marketing device, which they don't need anymore. They have always said they want to create mature games with mature themes. Making sure a game is titillating enough has nothing to do with maturity. No hot sex scene actually added to the dramatic effect in TW2. It was just hard sex for the sake of hard sex. Kinda pointless if you ask me..

Game of Thrones is the same in this respect. First two seasons werefull of kinky moments to gain attention. Now that they have the required audience, they don't need to use sex as a bait. In the last two seasons I don't remember a single "fun" sexy scene, only dramatic ones.

This is obviously America's fault :p American media outlets are totally OK with players committing real war crimes but when it comes to sex it's still a big no-no. Since TW3 is actually a mainstream game CDPR just didnt see a point in causing a stupid scandal. Besides, like I said before, sex is not a very important plot device in the series. Heck, even Sapkowski is kinda a prude who generally does very little to describe the sex scenes in the books. Violence is much more important to the narrative.

Which is exactly what Im saying: Either skip the pointless sex scenes straight away, or do them properly and with attention (like the bath scene in w2) but dont half ass them.

I would be inclined to agree, apart from the mentioned bath scene in W2. That did add to the dramatic effect in TW2, at least in my opinion. Especially for people who knew nothing about the lore/books/w1, it gave a tangible reason for those people to believe that Geralt is genuinely torn between Triss and Yen, as well as wanting to protect her from Letho.

I wholeheartedly agree about the bath scene, it was sweet, tasteful but also sexy. It slipped my mind :)But on the whole sex was a gimmick that is not necessary.

The only criticism I have when it comes to TW3 is that they reused the same scene like 7 times. This, I admit, is kinda annoying but it falls under the "recycling of assets" criticism and has little to do with actual sex. This again has nothing to do with consoles or CDPR betraying us (as some of you are suggesting)

But to those few that feel angry about the witcher not being kinky enough, I can just say: you have clearly misunderstood what CDPR is going for.

Congratulations, you have effectively grasped the american moral system, which is in my option very hypocritical and effectively sickening.

Witcher 3 is more brutal than all the other games, you can basically slice people in half and people get burned to death at the stake, at the same time lot of the sex has been tamed, and I am not only talking about the explicitness of the scenes that are displayed, but also how sex is treated in the games.

No more casual sex, nearly every sex encounter has to have some "romantic" sub-plot, especially visible in the Keira scene which was downright cheesy.

probably they removed the most harder mocap and leave the most lame soft in the game remove at least 5 more scenes

possible reason consoles

Dunno about consoles specifically, but mainstream acceptance was definitely a factor, I recon...

Didn't watch it, since I want to save it for my Yen play through, but even if that scene is better, others aren't... especially the (only) Triss scene.

Nothing special. Imo as lame as the other scenes. A part of it doesn't even make sense.

Opinions may vary. I thought that scene was cool and more tasteful than the Triss scene in TW2.

The Triss scene in TW2 started out great but it got dragged out too much. The little humor with the Scoia'tael dwarf at the end was funny but it didn't really fit the mood of the rest of the scene.

imo the Yen scene at Kaer Morhen is better.

As I said, that may be, but it doesn't change the fact that most of the other scenes are boring, using the same hand full of animations over an over again... I mean, the ONLY Triss scene uses the exact same animations as the Keira and all the prostitute encounters... talk about cheap. I mean, why do 16 hours of mo-cap if the end product could just as well have been animated by hand.
