Would "Imagin the world in 1977, and then add 100 years of technology to that" not be a better likeness?

Except... maybe ramp up the vitriol, the hatered between people of certain groups... and ramp up the misery, the squalor, the gap between rich and poor, etc... ramp all that up. And imagin also that most people in the world probably live in some kind of a ghetto or something... atleast the ones who live in cities... the ones who do not live in cities basicly live in a bombed out shell of a world that probably resembles the Fallout games, or Mad Max, or some such other post apocalyptic world.

The only place where I would imagin that a persons sexuality, or other things like the colour of their skin or something, would not be that big of an issue... would maybe be amongst the rich... and the semi-rich, as in the people who maybe owns stores or smaller companies which the Rich frequently buy at or use.

But I might be wrong here... I might asuming the wrong things about how the world of the Cyberpunk RPG is... since I have never played it, and I have never actually read the books for the game.

Sooooo~ooo~ooo... what I'm taking away from the last page or so is that Cyberpunk is a place where you can freely be whoever or whatever you want and be accepted by certain groups of people, but then robbed, ridiculed, and beaten to death by other groups. Seems like everyone stands to be happy here (except for those who think that showing something constitutes endorsement of that thing, but they're never happy).

Something I do feel though, adding to what I said befor... is that there probably is a pretty large majority of people who actually don't care about what people are... but that the groups who do are larger (just due to the sheer fact of overpopulation), so that the majority of people who do not care basicly are to afraid to say or do anything about all these arsehats who are going around spouting their shit. XD

Also... to me it feels like the world is on the verge of a revolution... in the verge of change... on the verge of people finally, and once again, standing up for what is actually right. Just like how it feels that the 1970's where... things where starting to move (had been since the 60's really), things where gearing up, things where just about ready to break. Where the larger majority of people would go "NO! No more! This is not right! You are all wrong! So sit the fuck down, and shut up! Because we are not going to take all of this abuse and shit from all you ignorant fucks, or you rich bastards either for that matter, anymore!"

That's how I see a Cyberpunk setting being... a huge meltingpot, where everything is on the verge of absolutly blowing the fuck up. All it will take is one single spark, one single normal person beaten up or taken advantage of by one of these groups, be that group rich or poor, or what ever... and the rest of the people will finally react and fight back.

I would argue that racism against elves or other non-humans and mages isn't the same because it's fantasy racism that doesn't exist in our world. It would be like having sexism in the Witcher against a third gender that doesn't exist in our world.

Is it really not the same? It is racism against people that are from a different race. So I think it is the same. The only thing that makes this kind of racism different is, that maybe the player sense it in a different way than real-world racism.

As we don't have fantasy races in CP77 taking something non-human wouldn't work like in TW3. But still just copying actual tendencies would end in a wrong experience. Of course racism will not change completely in such a future but as society changes also racism will change.

Oh yes, I lived in the UK in the mid 1970's during the Football hooliganism/riots. It was downright dangerous to wear the wrong jersey and sometimes not to be wearing one at all!
I was smart ... after my first and only time seeing a match live I watched them on TV at the pub like any sane person.

I would think that given the "dark and gritty" nature of cyberpunk, sex is going to be a theme, at least just as much as it was in The Witcher. There you played a straight guy, he was set in stone since he was taken from the books the game was based on.

Here you can choose your character, so you can probably be gay or straight, male or female. And to be honest, given the darker nature of the cyberpunk setting, being a world based on power, wealth, and corruption, keeping homosexuality out would be "sugar coating" it. Sort of like putting a candy glaze on a Jalapeno Popper because you think the audience will find it too spicy.

Also, CDPR has said proudly that it considers itself to be an Indie company, so watering things down for the masses does not seem to be there style. . . .

Yeah, I think you're right. We've seen what they're willing to do. The Witcher series didn't shy away from sex or nudity. I think they'll go even further in Cyberpunk 2077, and I think they should. In a world where Transhumans are everywhere, I'm confident that there are room for homosexuals and transsexuals. I doubt the topic of homosexuality or transsexuality is very controversial in a world where transhumanism is quickly becoming the norm.

True, here in Europe (well, in that part of europe anyway) where Football / Soccer is huge, I never seen anything else making people THAT violent.
I mean, even politics doesn't drives them that crazy, and here, they beat each other to pulp just for some stupid soccer.

The funny thing is that, sometimes (and... I garantee it's true), those people are only here to fight and enjoy violence, so if they aren't any "oponent team", they'll just fight themselves, like retards.

I think, seeing how we see sex today (internet, magazines, ads, ect...) and extrapolate it further, that sex will be treated like any other "product".
They'll sell you sex or whatever.
I remember, like 15years ago, all those things like sextoys or porn was like taboo, but with the internet, it seems everyone is less "shy" to talk about it and everything.
Just look at video games, we have pixel porn in mainstream medias, they even adapt sextoys on VR headsets.
You wouldn't thought about it to be real back in 2000.

So, pushing this to 2077?
I'd say sexbot and stuff would be pretty casual, the same way we joke about dildoes or whatever nowadays, it would be common and "not that weird" once people are adapted to it IMO.

Give the player access to editors to design their PC as they wish, including gender, body modification, clothes, look and style. Some boostergangs will be hardcase bigots of one kind or another as in CP2020, and certain PC configurations will no doubt trigger aggression from those gangs. Another PC configuration may be very pleasing to exactly those gangs. Some individual NPCs will also react favorably or unfavorably to certain PC configurations. Most NPCs will probably not care one way or another. Treating everyone like an asshat all of the time regardless of configuration is very unbigoted. So just give the player freedom and let them use it as they prefer. With CP2020 skills like Seduction and the possibility of sexual implants ("All night, every night, and she'll never know.") there is a lot of material to be mined, but there should always be alternative ways to reach an objective. Dont force the players, give them freedom to choose. And make them real choices, not fake ones.
