Sexy guns

One thing the talented artists at id and FHW understand is the importance of gun porn. CDPR gets sword porn, but after watching the demo, I'm not sure they get good gun porn. Please post your examples here for their inspiration.

Hope we get lots of customization options and engraving for weapons since in this world style and superficiality reigns (ehem.. Style over substance. Don't tell me you didn't hear it before). I would like to see customization options much more complex than in RDR2.

:eek::eek::eek:
Put some of the best examples I found on the web. Although I would like to see this not only on pistols and revolvers but on all kinds of weapons (even melee weapons) and not only engravings (probably premade so engravings alluding to V, Night City and even California and USA like in the photos would be incredible) but all kinds of customization options (ex: insert text in weapons with different typographies and sizes like in some of the photos above, that would be a very good option), even customization options we've never seen before (since it's in the future). Hope we get the capacity to make any weapon our own.
PLEASE CDPR.

Good thread !
I think there would need at least three kind of gun designs to make a perfect balance.

1st - As 2077 is not far from our times, it would need the "old" gramps' gun : basically what we use today as a standard. Of course we wouldn't need ALL of that, as it is more of a reminder of the old times, and frankly I'd sell my parents for a P90, Kriss Vector, Python .357 Magnum... or a good ol' sawed shotgun in this game.

2nd - We'd need futuristic, top-notch gun tech etc., actually what's shown in the gameplay video is just fine. I think that they are a bit "overdesigned" (don't know if my term is correct), it just feels too complex to my eyes, but it's OK since it's a futuristic game. Maybe this section would need variety of "complexity" so everyone can have his/her favorite killing friend.

3rd - We'd need a customization mod (agree 100% with @whitewolf2077 on that part, as I talked about "precious" items in RPGs on another topic --> that'd be a perfect way to get our precious items crafted with "unique" parts like a buddy dogtag or stuff). My comment explaining "precious items" is on that page : (click to read the comment)
--> (sorry for the example below, I couldn't find a better picture to illustrate the point...)

So yes, I believe we can get a variety of cool designs and be able to make everyone happy. Here are some of my favourite / odd designs to end this :

Yeah. The guns a quite a big letdown of a demo. Pistols are cool. They are very cyberpunkish, and seem pretty much inspired by the PnP game. The other weapons, however... The Gyroget gun is lacking, the double barrel is crappy, and it seems Arasaka, for some reason, manufactures doublebarrels for the street samurais. Really? You take DB on an OP, you're dead. Really. Even in PnP, especially in PnP. The crazy gun from trailer... WTF is that? There's a ton of great inspiration for guns in the source material. Instead of going the first trailer route (Militech Crusher, Police AICWish rifle). they, for reasons unknown, went MMO route. And it seems, the guns we see in the demo are pretty much ALL the guns in the game.
I really hope the models are place holders, because the so called "gun expert" they supposedly employed knows little to nothing about guns and his genre savyyness is questionable...
Seriously. Ther's ton of inspiration in established media.
Assault rifle from Doom3, Deckard revolver, Togusa's Mataba, M41A from Aliens (ok, I don't particullary like that one, because it doesn't make any reasemblance of sense, but it's still better than current CP77 designs). God damn, Black Ops IV (or rather "iiii" - seriously, learn your latin, fucks) has tons upon tons great designs, the worst of which is far better tought of and "cyberpunk" than all CDPR designs combined.

Nice opinion. I liked all guns i saw in the demo, instead of generic sci-fi weapons or, even worse, weapons from PnP CDPR make cool new design. Especially for smart gun, i loved it design so much.

I read that he is Counter Strike Pro player, from all FPS out there they pick Counter Strike game to be base ground for guns and range combat lol you don't even have iron sight in Counter Strike,and where 90% of combat is hip firing, and all of weapons look and feel like some toys and not a real weapons.

even worse, weapons from PnP CDPR make cool new design. Especially for smart gun, i loved it design so much.

lol what? weapons from PnP are fine, worst is what they did and give us smart gun you see in demo, aimbot soldier 76 i got you in my sights, plus statement yea smart gun is for players who want more RPG way of playing, so what if i like RPG you assume i don't know how to aim on my own, so they need to give me aimbot?

From DESIGN perspective. How gun look. I assume this thread is about visual design.

Yeah thread is about art design. In truth I do think the guns look pretty cool in the demo, but maybe could be a bit more unique. I want the same attention to design they gave the swords in The Witcher.
That's interesting, because in TW3, I only had a few swords that I really liked in term of design. Among my favorites, the Blade from the Bits, Olgierd Sword (Iris), and some swords from some schools. I never was really satisfied with the upgrade versions of some swords. I prefer simpler, functional design, but it really depends on one's sensibility.

Take closer look at the Smart Gun in the demo:
There's a funny gfx glitch in 40:28 timestamp. And that glitch actually makes the gun look better and make more sense :)
But then it reverses to regular "I didn't really had time to design shit" model :)

Two worst designs in 2018 in one picture :)

Dunno why you guys dislike shotgun. Old dad's shotgun from 1980s improved with 2077 technology. Not all weapon need to look like serial army weapon especially weapon from cyberpsycho gang.

Yes, but it's acommercial made Arasaka's shotgun named "Ronin"
And if you, in the cyberpunk game, name a half assed gun "RONIN", you commit a grave sin, a crime aginst cyberpunk.
And guns are CHEAP. If you want to survive you buy the best piece your limited money can buy. In 2077 that would probably be double clip, full auto, compact shotgun with programable ammo, not a double barrel with... SOMETHINGS attached to it. And why is it a TECH weapon. It really can get more low tech than a double barrel shotgun. TECH weapons should be LASERS, EMPs, MICROWAVES, PARTICLE BEAMS. Not lead slugs (or even tungsten or DU).
Yes, I never liked Mad Max. I believe that anything related has no place in cyberpunk. Nomads, GTFO!
:)

It could be designed to take a large variety of different ammunitions, ranging from standard shot and slugs to plasma microgrenades.

Did this RONIN shotgun has official image? If it doesn's CDPR can represent it whenever they wants to. If it is (i doesn't found pictures tho) well its 57 year after 2020 and CDPR uses this as cover from 2020 fans.

Despite of how CHEAP guns are (we actually don't know much about prices of guns) there is place for some homemade guns. In every time there are "mad engineers" who build their mad weapons. And it can be easy explained with people who doesn't want corporate rights for all weapon so they build "their own" weapons.

TECH weapons should be LASERS, EMPs, MICROWAVES, PARTICLE BEAMS.
If you said so. Those THING on barrels is most probably are electromagnets which accelerate the bullets. Why gauss/railgun weapon isn't TECH weapon?

In PnP game (the one CP2077 is based) "Ronin" is a commercial name for M18 Assault Rifle. The most popular and iconic weapon of the verse. That's why naming a not very good design "Ronin" is not a good idea.

The doublebarell is not build by a gang for themselves. It is an ARASAKA design. Arasaka is the second largest weapon manufacturer of the verse. Yet it seems that this DB is the only shotgun they make. And seriously, right now, from the money from your wallet, you can probably buy a shotgun that is a state of the art space tech compared to DB. Guns are cheap. In CP universe they are waaaay cheeper, because they are the essentials as water and air.

Electromagnets will accelerate a bullet, provided it's made of iron. It'll still be, howecer, a fairly low tech slug. All the science, physics, ballistics behind them is the same as in regular, powder powered slug. It's, bassically, XIV century technology behind it. It's not TECH.

Lasers, EMP, microwaves are TECH. They use sophisticated tech to operate and are, generally, anti- tech weapon. lasers can affect sight, emp disrupts electronics, micro fries tissue, particle beams disrupts matter. That's TECH not an iron bullet.

My issue, however, is mostly cosmetic. I just dont like the looks of most weapons presented, and fear that the range will be lackluster. Yes, there sure will be a tons of variants, but they will all look the same. As for mechanics (+cosmetics because said guns are fugly and "that is not how guns work"ish ), it suggest that a person responsible for that part of development was a random person with absolutely no idea what he/she was doing. Why? There were tons games with guns before. And all did that part better. It means somebody was not paying attention.

That's not a game breaking issue, I can of course live with that, and I believe what we saw is in large part placeholder art and mechanics. But as a gun porn fan, I'm a little worried :)

I think that I clearly won't use a weapon that I find not attractive. But as you said, that's no big deal. I'll instead try harder with a good-looking, less powerful gun, even the first handgun if I have no better choice. I'll do whatever it takes to enjoy my roleplay with the choices given. Same goes for augmentations, as I don't want to be forced to use an aug that I find unfitting to my character, hehe. For example, I couldn't stand half of the augs in Deus Ex HR, especially the arm blades, too cheaty.

I'm aware that saying "this or this weapon is ugly" is a bit rude to whom designed these... but to be honest I'm from those who care much for a design that brings a story rather than an overdesigned stuff that means nothing but looks. As long as designers can set apart "complexity" and "good looking", they can reach milestones in every design.

Always loved the Masamune Shirow weapons, especially the Seburo Arms stuff:

And 2020 had the Crusher SSG;

which was originally inspired by Deunan Knute's shotgun from Appleseed;

which was updated and used in the announcement trailer

So I am very hopeful for some Shirow inspired designs
