A hit team is en route...

If you want something colorfull like a firework, play Shadowrun. Fancy elves, fancy magic and dragons. AD&D meet Technology.
If you want something noir, dark, unforgiving, play cyberpunk.

There are 2 things in a P&P RPG :
- The backgroud (the world)
- The rules (the system)

You may adapt a set of rules to play in any world you like.

Hell no. I HATE when games mix magic and science. No. Fucking no. Not in a million years.

a buddy of mine worked out conversions between cyberpunk and shadowrun that allowed us to combine aspects of both games into a hybrid. what would be the chances of getting the shadowrun & cyberpunk efforts to combine forces and make one hybrid game?

who here would be more interested in a cyberpunk+shadowrun hybrid.

If we were in person, I would remove my glove, possibly putting a brick in it, then use it to slap you silly. about the face and neck..

Shadowrun is already a hybrid... it is a hybrid of Cyberpunk and dungeons and dragons. It is shitty Rum and watered down RC Cola.

Cyberpunk 2020 is fine aged Scotch.... it stands up perfectly on its own. If you mix it with anything, it just becomes vile and less than what it was.

If you mention this idea again, I will beat you with the chair leg of truth...

I don't think homogenization is good. Diversity is teh powah.

I love both universes, but that shit don't mix.

They both use the same literary DNA but interpret it in very different directions.

It's like a classic Jazz standard sung by Billy Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald each is utterly unique and yet they are singing the "same" song. The difference though is unlike singing duets, combing two different worlds with different histories is usually a recipe for disaster.

Shadowrun is already a hybrid, don't want any fucking magic in my Cyberpunk.

If I want magic I'll play Skyrim, even then I don't use magic. I'd rather use alchemy to make poisons.

Well, a) he was being sardonic. He doesn't really have a Chair Leg of Truth. Pretty sure he doesn't - he was going to beat me with it earlier. Then I started to sweat eagerly in anticipation and he opted not to. Bastard.

b)Thicken that skin a bit, maybe. You -did- come into a forum devoted to one kind of game and suggest combining it with the game generally seen as it's direct and diluted rival. So of course people are going to make fun and jeer. It is, to them (us) suggesting you add beer to their fine aged whiskey. Repulsive!

c)I hate whiskey. And beer. Who drinks that crap anyway?

Just buy Shadowrun Returns or get Shadowrun Online when they come out

I helped fund the Shadowrun Returns Kickstarter and cannot wait for it to come out

Also its clear that Wisdoms comment was meant to be sarcastic but sometimes it’s hard for some people to understand this on the internet, it’s like you need to actually write ‘I am being sarcastic’ to be on the safe side

Tone it down. Now.

Just to make this clear, anyone is welcome to disagree with a suggestion that's made, but attacks against the person making the suggestion are not acceptable. Nor are personal insults against other members.

No vote here either.

As stated the "tone" of Shadowrun and Cyberpunk are nearly opposite each other.
As to the game mechanics ... with a little work you can alter any game to work with any other games mechanics.

No disrespect to the OP... but I always looked at Shadowrun as a cheap rip-off of Cyberpunk. RTG had already put terms like Cyberoptics and Cyberaudio in print and FASA came out with "CyberEyes" for Shadowrun. It just seemed very cheap and "Me too-ish" I own the 2nd Ed books but I never played it more than as a curiousity when some acquaintances started playing. It failed the suspension of disbelief check.

If you want a dash of the supernatural in your cybepunk there are some third party suppliments but nothing considered canon.

Uh...

Shadowrun IS a Cyberpunk hybrid, already. They took the dark, grimy streets, the armored trenchcoats, mirrorshades, and smartguns, and added in elves, dragons, and magic.

Don't get me wrong; I *do* enjoy Shadowrun. But, I don't want this to be a Shadowrun game.

Again: I DO NOT WANT this to be a Shadowrun game. Just needed to repeat that for emphasis.
