Sadly his valoration of Cyberpunk 2020 wasn't much nicer. Something about geeks wanting to be cool or something like that. Who reads cyberpunk anyways? I wouldn't say it's the grabbag definition of geek that includes being manchildren with... a certain physique, a certain set of interests, or that quote oaths while doing certain gestures or stances... but still, some kind of geeks to go insulting them, your own audience like that.

I used to be kind of hard on Shadowrun, but that to me had to do with being tired of RPGs having to shove fantasy into every mix because RPGs. Now I think they mixed it in an interesting way, even if I still prefer a purer RPG simulation fo the cyberpunk tropes without anything alien to it. I mean, at least we have pure Cyberpunk RPGs, are there even pure Steampunk or Dieselpunk rpgs or games that don't involve anything supernatural?

some people just aren't effusive and ingratiating by nature.

also, i find it's the actual manchildren who are the ones to take those types of candid statements as personal insult.

Wow, I don't know what kind of tricks my tired mind is playing on me, I had misread your whole comment as "you taking the manchildren thing as a personal insult". Are you suggesting that I'm one of those? Where acting as if I felt insulted? I'm just saying that it didn't seem very appropriate. Who was he calling "geeks that want to be cool"? I didn't take it upon myself to make an RPG that honors the tropes, nor did I play it, as much as I look forward to doing so in any format, PnP or videogame. I just pose the question, who reads cyberpunk? The cool kids? I mean, we are like the bad guys of geekdom, but a kind of geeks nonetheless. Does that mean I think any less of Gibson? Hell, no. But it was, in my opinion a poor choice of words and a poor judgment on his part.

Sard, by anything supernatural I mean fantastical creatures and magic. To my knowledge those are as alien to those other 'punk subgenres as they are to Cyberpunk. I mean Steampunk and Dieselpunk that are just uchronias and such.

he's saying shadowrun's not his cup of tea and provided several reasons for it. nothing really inappropriate about that. it's no different than a filmmaker or writer saying he wants to do something original and meaningful other than another superhero movie. sure there are a lot of fans of that genre, but people generally have to concede the flaws and move on. and bryan singer's probably more livid about the pedophilia bust than any insinuations regarding his body of work. i don't think it was meant as an insult.

Ok, let's recap what happened here:

1. braindancer12 mentions Gibson's valoration of Shadowrun.
2. I mention Gibson's vision of CP2020 wasn't much better, adding a bit of my opinion.
3. I talk about my initial negativity towards Shadowrun and how that has changed, for balance's sake.
4. I'm aparently a manchild because I apparently took those as personal insults.

Seems like one can't mention disagreement anymore unless he feels personally hurt or attacked.
