Shion "Samum" name origin theory

+
This is purely speculation and is likely not correct.

I was checking the cars I can buy and saw this Mizutani Shion "Samum".
It's basically a Shion Coyote but with a missile launcher added.

Once I read missile I immediately thought of S.A.M. missile sites. Surfact to Air Missiles.
The cb77 wiki has 2 other theories for the naming

  • Its name may have been taken from a type of throwable in The Witcher series of games.
  • Its name may have been taken from simoom (Arabic سموم samūm), a strong dry desert wind.
Those are good theories too, and I admit I'm not familiar with Witcher the games.
But I am really wondering if the Japanese consultants/devs for this game included this name of Samum as a reference to SAM missile sites.
I could see how in Japan they would pronounce SAM as Samum.
