Shortest main story in rpg game ?

+
The main story should be longer, good that the game has alot of side quests, it needs a long main storyline too.
"many people didnt finish witcher3" so what ? do you care more about them or the ones that did ?

I love the game but Holy Christ why is the main story so dang short? I think it's shortest rpg game ever right ? I've never played an RPG story so short before. Yea there are a lot of side missions but the main story is what keeps you interested and boy was it disappointing in length. Just bizzare and ridiculously too short.

Come on CDPR after 8 years you give a 17 hour main story ? Who were these imbeciles that asked for a shorter game? I think it's half the length of witcher 3. Hate those people that said "I like a short game if the story is good". Well if the story is good why would you want it shorter? It's an RPG game not a movie.

It's such a rich and detailed world they should've made the story much longer without a doubt. But great game nonetheless. Was very sad but mostly shocked when it ended. Witcher 3 dlc main story was longer than this entire games main story.
If you decide to speed through to finish the game that's really on you. They said that was an option for those ppl who didn't want to engross themselves in the world but just finish the game and that's by no measure short either way. Even Skyrim's main quest is shorter than that.
There are other missions that, while not considered the main story, fleshes out your and Johnny's background as well as several other characters and if you're interested in their story and not just rushing through then you'd have played those. If you didn't then that was by design as the devs said in advance for those who aren't in it to explore and learn about Nightcity

Skyrim is shorter. If you fast travel, do nothing but the main story, and are familiar with the story itself, Skyrim is only about 2 1/2 hours. The game also only has 17 main quests.

True... but somehow it is fun to do no quests at all in Skyrim... while same can not be said about Cyberpunk...

They clearly ran out of time and used that as an excuse. Needed more set pieces as well. Still, a better game than most.

Oh man... ouch... that i do not even want to imagine! He was the most hyped person about this game to be sure...

Oh, absolutely. And he was supposedly working very closely to make sure the world and story was authentic.

I feel like CDPR definitely let him down.

Nope Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Without using glitches can be done in an hour, with glitches and exploits you can literally do it in 5 minutes.

Probably before Keanu’s implementation and complete rework of the story.
I don't care about the rework of the story and from my understanding, that had zero bearing on game direction. It's all the gameplay elements from the PnP RPG that I was looking forward to and boy, they missed the target

<<<SPOILER ALERT>>>

Statistics, I guess. After 100hrs played you can clearly tell that many devs (not just CDPR) now days develop games by statistics and spreadsheets , not passion and ambition.

If 'Statistics' say 70% players won't even finish the main quest , then why not save some budget on the costly main quests which require tons more writing, acting and careful polish? Simply cut it short and pepper the game with 'side quests' which is not much more than a short holo , some shards and a place filled with bad guys.

The main quests of a RPG is like an interactive movie, it shouldn't be too long and lame so player's losses interest half way, and mustn't be too short so players go 'waaa??? Who that? ' when something big happens.

Here you have the main NPCs, the environment, the scripted events and everything must orchestrate to present an aim, a goal, a force of motivation to drive the players forward. Unfortunately the storyline of this game losses its focus even sooner than the players by taking away and stopping the development of the few vital support role NPCs that players actually liked. There's no Garrus* in this game, he died early . And there's no Tali* , she jumped ship.

'Jackie? Ahhh I remember him! Funny dude, got his own pistol stuck in the head and died' I mean.... seriously....

**Garrus is your bad ass Scarface bro in the mass effect trilogy , a fine example of character development , I liked him, a lot.
Tali is the illusive love interest from the same game.

Your post doesn't make any sense because Cyberpunk 2077 is not a RPG game. It's not even close to a RPG game.

I can complete skyrim main quest, sub 6 hours

Dragon age origins base game, sub 25 hours

Dragon age 2, sub 25 hours

Dragon age Inquisition, sub 35 hours

Every mass effect game, sub 30 hours

Cyberpunk 2077 base game takes me 30 - 35 hours not doing even half whats on offer, for me thats decent and hopefully updates and dlc do nothing but add more

in year or two, there will be 2 expansions for this game where each will add 15-20 hours of content... at that point, you will have a game that wont be as long as Witcher 3, but will be not that far away from it... we got a base story, but there will be more..
