Should have played the second one first?

I picked this game up after reading a bunch that you can dive into this game without having played the others and be fine. I had always wanted to try the other witcher games, specifically the second but didn't have an Xbox and wasn't up for building a new computer cuz I want that much into vid games anymore. I picked this up to play on ps4, read a bunch of backstory on the internet and feel like I have no clue on what's going on and am missing out on a lot of cool stuff.

This game is awesome, and I love the story and everything so far, but I keep running into these characters who I am supposed to previously know, and while they kind of explain who they are, I feel like I kind of screwed myself by not playing the second one. For instance I just met this Roche guy for the first time. Apparently he's a big part of the second game. When u met him there was some blonde haired girl complaining about something and i could tell from the scene I was supposed to know her. Come to find out from YouTube she plays a whore kinda gets raped by a king and you can bang her....so it leaves me wondering in my game did I bang her? Could I have killed her?? Who knows at this point. (Turned it off after this scene)

I find this happening a bunch in this game. While it's not as bad as say playing mass effect 3 without playing the first 2 I wish they wouldn't have said you'd be fine starting with this game.

I'm about 40 hrs into this game and still feel like I've barely scratched the surface. At this point, since I love the setting and story so much I'm wondering if getting witcher 2 for my laptop ( I know..) and playing that before continuing the 3rd is something I should do. Never thought if be frustrated at a game being so huge. Just not enough time in my life to rip through this lol

Playing them all is number 1 choice, as secound options i would suggest reading the books, they are quite awsome ! And you get to know some characters really well

The first is kind of a pain from what I've seen in vids and heard tho. Do you think I'd be setup pretty good for the third? I've read those lore books published by the devs. Even tho they were kind of confusing they helped a some.

I have all 3 games though I haven't played much of pt.2. The first Witcher game is probably one of the coolest CRPG's I've played and I go back to the old Commodore 64/SSI Gold Box days. It sort of reminds me of a BioWare game in that rather than having a huge open world you quest in smaller, confined "zones" that are very detailed. This allows for a much deeper experience story wise. As far as combat goes it's not much different from any other RPG and the character development is really good. All in all I'd recommend you try it out and since you can usually find it on Steam or Humble Bundle for less than $5 you can't really go wrong.

Affirmative! The first game was one of the coolest PC cRPGs, but the second one had Vernon Roche :> If you have time, do play all of them in order. Even though the first one got a little old, it's still an amazing experience :]
