Should I feel bad for the developers a little?

Should I feel bad for the developers a little?

This thought crosses my mind now and then (and it doesn't just pertain to CDPR); but I wonder how many people think whether developers can actually enjoy their game as much as gamers can?

This stems from the fact that we did not create the game, we do not know all the quests and most things are still a secret to us.

Christopher Nolan may enjoy creating movies and investing into the pool of human creativity; but the viewers are the ones getting the actual satisfaction of unraveling plot intricacies.

This thinking probably does not apply to an artist for instance, because an artist can enjoy looking at his or her painting as much (if not more) as anyone else. But I think it's a different dynamic when it comes to the creation of games/movies/books.

If I was one of the developers, I would have wanted to know as less as possible about the game as I could. Miles did say that he did not know all the quests, but I am assuming most people at CDPR know the overall storyline and such.

I hope I am expressing myself clearly.

Anyone else feel the same way?

only story department and testers, why for example engine programmer should know it

I believe one of the developers said no-one but the writers knows how the story ends because the ending was off-limits even to other CD Projekt RED staff.

You also have to consider that in a video-game development team, especially a team the size of The Witcher 3's, no single person works on every single part of the game. i.e. as a environment designer you may work on 90% of the locations, but you never see those locations in-game with monsters, talking NPCs, and things to do until you sit down and play the game. Even as a playtester you aren't going to witness most of the game. So I still think there will be enough left in the game for CD Projekt RED staff to be surprised every once in a while.

That said, I still don't feel sorry for them. Even if we consumers get one of the best games ever made --a game that redefines RPGs for modern systems-- the developers still get the pride of knowing they made that game.

Since January, every member of CD Projekt RED staff that hasn't been actively fixing bugs has been playtesting trying to find bugs. But, as I said earlier in my post, one the developers said the ending was off limits to everyone except a small handfull of people.
