Should Witcher 3 feature a junk section in inventory or not?

My latest topic(Edibles and drinking) sparked some interesting posts, dipping into inventory management, so here's my next topic with poll! Enjoy! :D

Should Witcher 3 feature a 'Junk' section in inventory or not? If yes, should it be automated or would you want to decide for yourself what is to be considered junk or not? Mind you, before voting think of the possibility of customisation or an automated process taking your mind off of the hassle of inventory management.

Personally i'm against having any item that is junk be acquirable, why would I pick it up in the first place? I'd like every item to be useful or valuable, something like the inventory of Betrayal at Krondor. The tyranny of loot is something that's been in games a long time, but is really a degenerate feature, making rewards and currency all but pointless. The very act of selling vendor trash is distasteful to me, my Geralt won't pick up trash.

Hear hear! I had trouble making this topic, and deciding how the poll was supposed to look, but personally I don't consider a diamond or any gemstone to be junk. They may not be 'useable' in Witcher 1 but are useable enough to sell or trade with. :D

As far as I remember, they're going to bring back the grid inventory system. so I don't think there'll be any inventory tab like TW2.

Where did they say that?

Perhaps junk doesn't have to be as useless as in TW2. Give it some purposes. e.g some vendors might collect or exchange 10x "rusted steel swords" or 5x "dead cats" for something useful like building materials.

Good Day Everyone,

Hmmmmm............ Seeing how CDPRed is giving us a game where choices matter I would have to say that it would be an interesting idea to have us decide either to travel to a vendor to sell off the excess weight, or have the ability to conceal the overflow Via canvas bags/camouflage to be picked up later.

There s just something not right about any game that allows you to carry around obvious bulk. Somehow I can't see anyone of us getting in a scrap while toting 5-6 long swords, several daggers, a Halbred or two...etc Where is all this stuff supposed to be when one is rolling around and dodging, and getting flung around by a Kayran??

When you look at anytime WhiteWolf still only has his 2 swords, armour etc...you wouldn't even know you were carrying a load of stuff until you looked in your Inventory.

Just A Thought?

Cheers!

I think junk items should be removed from the game. They were an interesting gimmick in the Witcher 2, but was also a burden for his inventory as well (you can't even do anything with them!). They're useful for obtaining spare change from merchants, but I think Geralt should rely on hunting monsters or vicious beasts instead.

Is this World of WarCraft? No, so please no junk items at all. In the perfect RPG you use everything the world provides you with...

Hmm, valid points from many of you. Me? I would prefer to actually pick up things like in Witcher 1. Gems, books and rings etc. Not pointless worthless crap, but valuable. There was no junk section there, but one could choose what to hold on to and not. Junk section in Witcher 2 had things ranging from food(!) to ropes, tools and other less valuable stuff. So maybe like a grid system like in Witcher 1, and a "junk sack"(didn't that just sound awfully wrong?)or section in inventory to discard less desirable items.

No need for a junk section. Why would you want a junk section? Basically if it's junk, you don't want it, so why bother? Just like food in The Witcher 2. 'yay a merchant, it sells food that I absolutely don't need and will never buy, eat or use because it's junk'.
At least in The Witcher 1, stuff you did not need were valueables which could be sold for a decent prize.

There should be no junk at all i hate collecting old fish or other useless items in W2. You should add this option to survey :)

I can understand if there is a seperate inventory for items you wish to sell, gems, daggers and what have you that you do not intend to use. This would speed up selling to a merchant, though personally I prefer merchants deal in only their own specialised products, like in the first Witcher. I wouldn't call it junk however, that entails something of no worth, perhaps simply Sellable or Tradeable Items?

I wonder if Roach will have saddlebags that we can store stuff in?

My first reaction was to say we shouldn't be picking up junk, but then I remembered all the games where you can loot a mysterious item only to find out later it has special value or plot significance. I want that aspect to be in TW3. But we certainly don't need all the junk items we had in TW2. The only reason that stuff came in handy is for the mod I used which converted them into crafting items.

The "junk" should be useful, if it's like they said that prices vary between various parts of the world, what is preventing them from adding a merchant that has special interest
in junk items, maybe as a quest.
The junk button seemed annoying, reading item description when they are nicely written can be a nice element of inventory management.
Also Geralt should be able to wear rings again, gifting things could be still a option.
Still it's not clear if edibles are back, it's a completely different thing if the potato is boiled and cane be eaten or not.

Correct me if I am wrong: but witcher 1 had no junk section, but all items mixed and all had some uses. Right? Food could be eaten or sold, items could be used on weapons, sold, or given as gifts.

Then came witcher 2, and all items mixed. All items, useable and those labeled junk. Food had been labeled as junk among other things. Then came an update that added the junk section which was very helpful considering the inventory system used in Witcher 2(consolified).

Having an entire section of useless items (that aren't even worth selling) is completely pointless. This seems another quality vs quantity discussion to me, and while it might be true (for some people, not for me) that having more items in your game makes the looting aspect more interesting, we don't need stuff that's just clutter.

Having food or drinks like in TW1, where they're actually usable, or gems like in TW1, which are worth holding onto just to sell them, makes sense. Having rings, ropes, food and stuff like that that can neither be used nor sold for any decent amount of cash (though the latter is due to the poor economy and looting system in TW2) doesn't add anything to the game for me...

I joined the forum for a reason, hopefully catching the attention of CDPR devs. so how can I do that exactly? Is this poll not considered a survey? :D

Been thinking the same thing. Great idea, but at least should the very helpful stash at inns make a return!

Since grid inventory will be making a return in at least the PC version . There remains an uncertainty as to whether it will be weight based or item based or maybe a combination of both . "Junk" has different meanings for different people . For me it meant that it was neither useful in crafting and it wasn`t worth a lot of Orens at a merchant and therefore could be left where I found it . If in fact we do get a grid based inventory I would prefer not to have a "junk" section but instead let me make up my own mind of whether the item in question is indeed useless or not . I liked that aspect of it in Witcher 1 where if your inventory was full and you came across a useful item then for a bit you peruse your inventory to see what you have but also what you can do without .
