Silver Sword upgrade?

How do I upgrade the silver sword. I have tons of items but having them in my inventory at a blacksmith he only gives me the option to upgrade my steel sword.?

Find/buy diagrams for different silver swords (e.g. Superb Witcher's Silver sword, Robust Yellow/Blue/Red meteorite silver sword) or some are rewarded to you when you do quests.

Apply different rune stones in them to enhance their effectiveness.

I'm not sure what you mean. You can upgrade swords using runes, but only if the weapon has slots for it (little circles next to it).

The blacksmith himself can forge you new weapons, but only if you own the right schematic. So if that's what you ment, you need to find a silver sword schematic for him to forge one.

ambcrazy - Which game (TW1 or TW2), which blacksmith, which act, and what items do you have that you think can be made into swords?

I suspect that you're talking about TW1, and the probable answer is "it will happen later", but if you can give more info, it would help.

I am playing TW1 and just got the sword from the lady in the lake. The other silver sword I had was the first on that you get twords the begining of the game.

I carried that thing over to TW2 as it was a good one. You do lose any enhancements, but they can be redone. I kept it until I got the Witchers Superb Silver ( Crafted then enhanced ) then moved to the Red Metorite Sword. Some really good Steel & Silver swords can be found as well, f you take the time to look around ( especially in caves and such ).

The sword from the lady of the lake (Aerondight) is a "named sword", and isn't upgradeable using one of the permanent methods in TW1. It's one of the two best silver swords in the game anyway :)

You can add temporary runes or oils to it for specific fights to enhance it.

As was said, it's also importable into TW2. You can enhance it there, if you're planning to play it next :)

Yeah but that silver sword Aerondight or whatever it's called is rather useless in the new game. I have a robust yellow meteor sword and that thing is epic. I also snagged Stennis's steel sword and that is a sweet sword as well. I have been pretty much using all my talents towards swordsmanship. So those swords really help my character mow them down. I am only on Act 2 and it feels like I need to up the level to Hard or something because now I am mowing down enemies without any potions or enhancements.

It's better than the default sword in the prologue. Of course they're not going to give you something with 30-40 damage per strike, but it's good enough to help out those who had trouble with the prologue. That's about all you can expect without ruining the balance of the game for those who import :)

Oh I completely agree with what you are saying :) I just wanted to mention that people playing the game should explore all the crafting diagrams because there are some epic swords to be made and not only that...to be found as well! :)

Ah! Then we agree. I just didn't want OP immediately dropping it if they go on to the second game, thinking it's worthless.

I'm hoping that it imports into the third game with insane stats, personally. A little reward for those of us who held on to it for sentimental reasons :)

Haha, I guess quite a lot of people did actually do that. I've read it several times and personally, I kept both Aerondight and the Raven Armor (got rid of Gwalhir though, no sentimental value, imo).

digitalrurouni - you must be playing pretty well if you're getting good kills with Stennis' sword. You might want to do some of that exploring :)

On Aerondight sentimentality. I imported The Other One (trying to avoid too many spoilers for the OP). I think that makes me a bad person :(

As others have said, that one is not upgradeable.

If you have the plain Silver Sword (you have to have stored it with the innkeeper before you got Aerondight) and three runes (Earth, Moon, Sun, any combination), you can take it to the blacksmith to get the runes forged.

I don't think you'll be able to make a rune sword that's better than Aerondight, though.

Yes. Yes, it definitely does. I have no idea how one can possibly befoul the honor of receiving such a gift by leaving it behind.

I think I left it in a bar somewhere. Oops.
Anyway, The Other One has better import stats. (Insert smug smiley here)

You need to have three Runes [Not the Meteorite Stone]

haha no that does not. Honestly I had lost my saved game so I borrowed a friend's and that was the sword I got. This is my first playthrough and I am gonna hunt for a better sword with The Other One imported :)

That said the first severe challenge I experienced was
when the assassin's came to take Henselt's head.
Not sure what sword I was using then but now I have ditched Stennis's sword and moved on to that poisoned sword (forgetting the name at the moment).
