Simulate Witcher 2 Save - OFF option

So if you turn off the Simulate Witcher 2 Save option in the beginning. Does the game choose the decisions in the witcher 2 for you?

If so what are those decisions? I don't have a witcher 2 save file so I could make the decisions but I am wondering what the "default" decisions would be? I'm assuming its the ones that kill the least amount of important characters.

I placed my witcher 2 save file to documents\The Witcher 2\gamesaves and chose not to simulate witcher 2 save for game to use the save files instead. Have I done it right? I don't wanna play too much into just to start from the beginning agan. Clarification please!

Ok, found the right way and will restart the story. Damn. Seems folder name was to be "Witcher 2" instead of "The Witcher 2". Now import option appears.

ps: Couldn't edit the above post, forum didn't respond.

Yeah I feel the same. I played more than an hour, and I didn't understand at all where I have to input my save file. It was a gamesave from Steam, but now I installed the game from Gog, so I have no damn clue.

Can someone explain? I do not want to carry on if I have to restart.

frivolousam, could you explain better? in which folder are you putting the files? and did you have to restart the game once moved the files?

C:\Users\-username-\Documents\Witcher 2\gamesaves is the folder you put Witcher 2 save files in, then import option will appear once starting the story. Yes I had to restart the story.

yeah I think if you choose "simulate tw2 save" an npc later in the game will ask you about all the choices

So, if I understand correctly: If we import a Witcher 2 savegame we have to turn off the "simulate tw2 save" option right?
It´ll be bad if I import the savegame and turnning off that option makes the savegame import useless. Just to be clear.

I have read that you get 3 options when starting, Import (if available); Simulate ON (you get to choose); Simulate OFF (default world state)

obviously selecting any shoule preclude the others from being available. But I have yet to test this myself.

I should note that the point were you are asked is just after completing the prologue and go to meet the emporer of nilfgaard (i couldnt help but watch some youtube footage, bad me...

You have 3 options to choose at the start of the game. Save On (it will be created later), Save Off (default), Import a save file (this option will appear only if your saves from the witcher 2 it is in the default folder of saves...).

I have to restart the game tonight sigh :(, skipping all the content that I coudln't skip easily in a big chunk.

Dammit! I thought that "OFF" meant that I get to choose in game! This has to be the most annoyingly confusing way of saying this, possible! Is there any way to change the decision after you've done it? I've been questing in the prologue area for three hours, I don't want to redo all that!

Same here. I didn't have my TW2 saves and I accidentally said OFF to Simulate, assuming simulate would mean that the game would simulate a default state and not give me any options, which now turns out to be the opposite.
Do you guys know what the default state is?
I am ok playing the default state as long as
the "default" Geralt went after Triss to save her in Act 3 and didn't kill Saskia, kings and kingdoms be damned
Also, by having a default world state, do they mean that the default decisions are canon?

So no one knows what the default state is?
I'm particularly interested whether Letho is alive by default state, because I accidentally imported my save just before the last encounter with him.

I've been searching on many forums ever since the game came out. No one knows the answer and I guess the Dev's are not telling because I suppose it would spoil story. People will just have to find out for themselves once they finish the campaign.

EDIT: Well I found the best information so far, this is just from players observing the world as they are playing in the Simulate OFF option. It seems they have found out a few things in regards to what choices are made by default if you chose not to simulate.

Beware there will be Witcher 2 spoilers in this thread.
