Simulation/Training Mode

A Better Practice Mode Suggestion

so i'm new-ish to the game and i wanted to see if i could see how a certain card mechanic may work.

it took a ton of forfeit resets because i couldn't ever get the proper draw.

so my suggestion is to make practice (make a new section for AI fights) where your select the cards you want to try and are given those without any use of draw, additonal rounds, mullligans. set the limit to maybe 5-7 cards at most and just try whatever you are wanting to try against whatever random dummy ai.

a basic version just allows use of cards available to your deck, whereas a premium version (put in some task like defeat campaign, get to some level, etc) where you can test any and all cards, regardless of in your potential deck. that way it works as a try before you buy on whatever cards you are thinking of crafting.

[Suggestion] Be able to take cards for a test drive

I'm thinking it would be helpful if there was a practice mode in which all cards were available to make decks. This way, we could take a conceptual deck for a trial run to see if it actually works the way we think it will. If it does, we can spend our scraps on the golds and silvers we had in mind, but if it doesn't, we can try another idea. I think this would encourage more people to experiment and create their own decks, possibly leading to a bit more variety. To clarify, this would only work for a single-player practice mode against the AI, not in multiplayer, against friends, or in challenges. How do you feel about this idea?

bumping because i tried to test a mechanic (spores on a rotting cow) and could never get the circumstances to happen. please split AI fights and practice and allow practice to set conditions on seeing various mechanics, including the ability to use any cards you don't have so as people can get a try before you buy/craft idea of whatever.

To be honest, practice should also have a custom mode which would allow you to choose both decks and the order the cards are in. That way it might be of some use.

This would be good for people to test out how cards actually work before they craft them. Sometimes just reading the text is not enough to convey how the card will interact with other cards and effects.

Yes totally agree & I have one more request add to this suggestion that make this offline mode is possible so that players can enjoy some gwent even without net.

I had the idea coming in my mind as well. I think that it is great to really know the card before potentionally crafting or choosing it in a Keg.

However, after reading the comments I might be convinced that it wouldn't be that great of an addition.

You have to practise with the Deck you currently have, not the one you might in the future. Obtaining a card or seeing it for the first time being used is something unique. It would remove the bit of magic if you have seen every card and it's style.

So, I think I prefer it the way it is.

I had the same idea a few weeks ago, and I am still completely fine with it. And I also don't think, devs would earn less by selling kegs, because you will still need scraps for crafting cards and for that you will still need spare cards, so you will still have to buy kegs. And I don't agree in the point, people would only play against AI. AI isn't challenging. It is only useful, if you want to test something, not for having fun.

Another thing that would be nice to see added in practice mode is a way to set difficulty, i.e you can adjust how difficult the AI will be during a given match, maybe even let you select popular decks around the Gwent community(maybe a Gwentdb random deck button you can click) to face off against; or custom decks in your own collection, so you can get a feel of how different decks react to your current 'in-progress' deck. Also, allowing us to select which faction we want to face off against. This would allow for maximum refining and more effective practicing of our decks before heading into either rank or casual games. I understand casual games are in place to allow for "practice" matches, but this would be a nice addition for people who either cannot find a match, have bad connections or just simply want to play solo.

Would CDPR unlock us all cards when playing against AI in practice mode?

I know I've seen this topic discussed maybe once before. But being able to try a card, specially a gold one before spending full scraps on it would be amazing. Even if they gave all accounts a one time full scrap refund on a card you did not like and bought with scraps once per year or once per account total.

Would love a "simulation" mode for battle planning

First, I apologize if this has already been suggested; this Forum is getting really, really big, so I have not had the time to check through everything. I would absolutely love to see something where you can test your cards in a kind of simulation mode where YOU can setup both your and your enemy's cards the way you want so that you can see the effect certain things will have on them. After all, Gwent is supposed to be a battlefield. What do good generals do after a battle? They analyze what went wrong, where things went right, and what could be improved. Yes, I realize there is always the AI to play against, but it's pretty awful and it tends to kill cards that I still want to test out!

As a very part-time player (like most of us), it is really hard to rank up when there are so many competitive players who have seen everything. Perhaps one needs a bit more time to figure out "Skellige Math" with the longboats, Greatswords, etc. What goes into the graveyard and what doesn't? Those are simple to answer now for most people, but not for the beginner.

Anyway, this is something that I really hope can be done so that folks like me who like to study the interactions between cards have a chance to do so. Thanks for reading!

I would like something like this, definitely.

There have been times when I've wanted to test a specific card/combo/synergy, but against the AI it can be really hard. For example one time I needed the AI to play Dagon for Fog, but it took many tries to get a Dagon practice match.

(I found an old thread on this exact subject, but it's so ancient -- April 2017 -- that it can stay buried.)

I also agree that something like this would help a lot, I play almost every day but I change what I play constantly due to boredom.
I think it would be a huge time saver for myself and the people I have to test my decks on just to find out what works and what doesn't.
I also think that some kind of meme/meta deck simulator would be a nice addition to this for balancing your decks across the currant style of play.
