Slowdown and fps problems on an average comp.

Just a quick question,I have a pentium 4, 3.4 GHZ with Geforce 7800 GTX 256 mb, with 2 gigs of ram.I also had a swap file that was defined to take 48 gig ( the remaining free space on my 120 gigs hard drive. )I experience massive slowdown after just a couple of minutes of gameplay, with all settings set to the lowest and in 800 x 600.I am near the recommended requirements, so I find this situation kinda weird.before leaving home, I brought back my swap file to a definite 3 gigs, letting the system decide how to use it. I don't know if it will help.If not, any other tips?

Your system should be able to handle the game smoothly at least on low settings. Here is something to try:Backup your save games, and completely uninstall The Witcher. Make sure save games folder is also delete. Download CCLeaner, RegScrubXP (if using Windows XP), and JKDefrag from http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=5333.0. Turn your page file off by going to start -> control panel -> system -> advanced tab -> settings under performance -> advanced tab -> change at bottom (may be different process in Vista). Select no paging file and hit set, then ok. Restart computer in safe mode and then run CCleaner to clear out any temporary files and clutter, and then repair registry problems. Do this until you get 0 errors, then run RegScrubXP. Go back and forth until both programs show 0 problems. Then run your JKDefrag (much more efficient than Windows Defrag). When complete, try installing directly in safe mode. If it fails, restart and install in standard Windows. Install patch 1.3 (I'd also try installing this in safe mode). Now put your backed up save files back into the save directory, and I would recommend deleting all saves except your last 5 if you can. Run JKDefrag again. Then follow the process above in control panel to turn your page file back on. Click Custom size and set initial and maximum size to "4096", click set, and ok. Restart the computer. And then try the game.If there is still issues, I would also update all your drivers and get all windows updates. Also if there is any other software running in the background, including viruses and spyware depending on the antivirus used, this can also account for slowdowns. One note, you want to always keep at least 15% of your hard drive space free. Do not use up the entire drive as that will heavily negate performance of your entire system.
