Boosts your chance to hit. Does so by wiring the gun to your nervous system. No need to pull the trigger. As soon as the "fire" urge comes over you, the gun fires. Yes, there is room for comedy here. Anyway, no finger contraction, no need for trigger control, etc. Just think shoot and the gun shoots.

Then you can also add in a visual targetting device for ranging and motion correction, etc, improved cables for cleaner signal, a device that won't shoot your friends, etc etc.

Hm. It was my understanding that when point-of-aim matched up your visual point-of-focus, the circuit completed, and the gun fired.

There's a flowchart in the main PnP book, but I'm having trouble finding an image for it (without posting a link to a scan of the ENTIRE rulebook.)

Nerp.

If you look at the chart, you'll see it goes through a link, plugs and processor, but no visual component is necessary. Smartgun scans the target with lasers or sonar and when you think fire, it fires. You can add in a cyberoptic for extra goodness if you want.

Question you should ask is, why bother with the laser/sonar targetting? Smarrtgun is just a +2 bonus. Pretty nice, but really just ridding yourself of trigger twitch and spasm would probably do that. You think fire, gun fires. Laser/sonar scanner is kind of vague - what is it scanning? The whole target? Parts? Cover? It doesn't feed that data back unless/if you have a cyberoptic and even then, it's pretty clear the cyberoptic is a separate feed, so not even through that. Why scan at all?

A laser sight adds +1 alone, so..the smart part of the gun only adds a further +1? No.

Pretty sure we promptly ignored that bit and ruled that the laser/sonar scanner is old tech.

I suspect there will be some updates on just how effective, and small, some things are with the "upgrade" to 2077.

Remember original Traveller with room size computers with less processing power then your Blackberry?

Yes, It was a film called 'Runaway'. Had Kirstie Alley in it as well as micro explosive drones. I think one of the Interface magazines had a rocket pistol of similar design

Cyberpunk 2020 has had those rounds as a staple since it came out. Micro missiles they are called and if they miss their target, they have a pretty good chance to reacquire and make another pass. Very cool.

You can put them in cyberlimbs. Two per limb, iirc.

One of my, "Oh you -must- be kidding" borg designs has a cyborg with as many as these, pop-up, in as many limbs as allowed. You wouldn't need them very often, but if you did...well, you can MM in HEP, incendiary...lots of stuff.

Also just because using them the first time, preferably without the other players knowing, would be amusing. Anyone could have them - no need to be a badass Solo.

...Interesting. Looking at the chart right now: "If cyberoptic is present, it sets up a crosshair sight on the target. When gun's laser sight matches targeting crosshais, gun fires."

Yeah; as it reads, the smartgun link alone, no cyberoptic, adds the +2, and an additional +1 for the cyberoptic.

Laser/sonar scanner is kind of vague - what is it scanning? The whole target? Parts? Cover? It doesn't feed that data back unless/if you have a cyberoptic and even then, it's pretty clear the cyberoptic is a separate feed, so not even through that. Why scan at all?

Yeah, but Dr. Octopus with self-correcting, homing MISSILE LAUNCHERS in his arms!

I have been mildly intrigued with the multi-arms concept. More so since I read Hyperion by Dan Simmons years ago. There's a lot of utility there and if any game/fictional culture would find it appealing, it would be the tech/modification culture of Cyberpunk 2020.
