I smoked for about 19 years, now I've been without for approximately 5 years. I quitted two times before for several months, but somehow the smell of tobacco compelled me to go back. You never know, but I think I'm done for good with it this time. I find the smell disgusting now.

Just writing this so that if someone thinks it's impossible to quit after such a long time, it's not.
Same here.. Smoked for 22 years. Once the first little one came along, I started quitting... Took 4 years and lots of experimenting but I've been free for about 7 years now. Never quit quitting, as they say :)

You need to add a middle ground on your poll (all polls should include such) where like me I smoke a cigar once a year on new years.

So something like: "Normally do not smoke but will on rare occasions."

Could do that, but am more interested in how many people in general actually smoke, as I was of the assumption over half of the people smoked.

I started smoking when I was 12. At my worst, I was 2 packs a day and I quit smoking at age 40. My mother and I looked after my father at home as he died of lung cancer (from smoking). I have not smoked since 2016. Games, movies etc where folks smoke I still get a wee craving but I will not go back to it.

I've never smoked. The reason(s):

1. Never interested me

2. I love buying stuff so I'd never use that money to get cigarettes instead

3. I had/have two uncles that were alcoholics and smoked. One is dead and the other has health issues. You can blame it on the alcoholism too, but the smoking certainly didn't help. Good examples of people I don't wanna end up like.

I used to smoke everyday for a little over 12 years. Then I got to my mid twenties, landed an amazing job that turned into an amazing career, got married and had kids. At that point I thought to myself that I want this ride to last as long as possible so I stopped but, always a but, it's an incredibly stressful career and to this day there is nothing I find more relaxing than sitting on my boat and smoking a cigar. There are plenty of others things I do to evacuate the stress but none have the same effect.

So 2-3 times a year I take a 1-2 week vacation where I head out with my boat, wife and kids for a week or so and I smoke one or two cigars. Adding up to somewhere between 3-6 cigars a year. I now hate the stench and I would never smoke outside of these times but I genuinely enjoy those 3-6 cigars.

So I answered no because I don't consider myself a smoker but according to some I am. I know I should stop completely and show the right example to my kids and it will happen at some point. My oldest started asking questions far more frequently so I guess I'm getting near that point.

Personally, I'm quite pleased to see that, currently, 82.8% of the poll's respondents don't smoke.
Yeah, seems like a healthy player base. Though, can leave you wondering how the Tabaco industry ended up a billion dollar business with these numbers. So obviously it's not in the least representative for the rest of the people.

I suspect a factor may also be that, especially due to the overwhelming majority having voted "Nope" and the votes not being anonymous, some smokers may simply be unwilling to vote.

I don't know for sure if I would be if I were a smoker, but I might.

(Don't take this as a criticism; it's merely a speculation.)

I don't know, but in the 90s, everyone in high school was smoking, mostly to follow the crowd and be accepted by others - the only (wrong) reason why one so young can start smoking or drinking hard, imo. Not to mention adults, everyone was a smoker back then. This pool's results are definitely unexpected, but not unwelcomed.

Maybe I'm alone to think that, but showing the right example by smoking only 3/6 cigars per year, it's not that bad. It's like everything, it's like alcohol, it's in moderation (extreme moderation for tobacco).
My parents never smoke, always told me "it's bad", but I smoke...

I never smoked, but back when I used to go out a lot, lots of people smoked. We met up at a local cafe where everyone smoked like factory chimneys and then off to a club. It was only the next day at noon, when you got up and the smell of the clothes you wore the day before comes your way that you actually realized it.

Glad that is far behind us. we still have plenty of people who smoke, at work. But the number has definitly decreased over time.

The difference between cigars and alcohol is that cigars are only bad for your health. Alcohol, in moderation, can have some beneficial sides to it. Cigars and cigarettes simply don't no matter how moderate you are about it.

One could argue that the relaxing effect it has on someone like me compensates for the negative effects it has on a healthy person consuming them in very moderate numbers. In reality though, it doesn't. I'm fully aware of it and I know that the right thing to do is to stop completely if only to avoid exposing my children to it. Then again, I only smoke while on deck, I can't stand the stench so I don't smoke while inside the boat. They don't get exposed to it much besides simply seeing me smoke. I try to be responsible about my bad habit as much as possible, especially around my children.

I would never know, but if one of my parents had smoked a bit like you do, I might have said to myself, "smoking sucks, it's for old people...".
Because frankly, at 15/20 years old, I didn't really care what my parents said to me... That's bad, ok, I'll try it !
(youth what...)

And a few cigars a year, that can't be much worse than inhaling smoke than a dish that's burnt in the oven, to stay 1 hour with your head in the barbecue smoke while waiting for it to cook or simply live in Paris center... (if you've got a healthy life next to it).

Hopefully I end up dropping the habit before they even have to think about it. My oldest is 7 and last time he ended up asking so many questions and, as I previously said, I don't smoke near them so I ended up putting it out and just throwing it away. I know I can stop whenever I want, I don't even get a craving for it anymore. I guess it's the whole ritual of buying some, prepping the boat and heading out for a few days that's really relaxing me a lot more than the cigars themselves. I've just been doing it for so long that I associate all these things together.

Si c'était du tabac naturel, probablement pas plus dangereux, mais du tabac qui n'est pas rempli de produits chimiques ça n'existe plus ;)

The numbers were a lot higher when tobacco was on their path to the big leagues. It wasn't until people were like, "No wayzzzzz, burning stuff and inhaling it can have negative effects"? Well, it wasn't until that thought received mass publicity anyway.

This is how it was that time. You were either smoking to be accepted, or you didn't and were not so much accepted. Also counted for teenagers. Afraid lots a folks started smoking like that and gotten stuck with it.

Think your speculation hit the nail there.

This is a super weird poll... but if you want to understand *why* everyone smokes in Cyberpunk it's because it's a game set firmly in the 1980s. Everything about the game is 1980s because everything about Cyberpunk Aesthetic is 1980s.

And the 1980s was the last decade when everyone smoked.

The pool is about "Hey players, you smoke or not ?"
And not why many characters smoke in Cyberpunk :)
