Smokin' Judy

I do find it funny that in the parental warnings that is flashed before you watch a move or show now it be like:

graphic violence, self-harm, sexual violence, gore and... ... SMOKING! :ROFLMAO:

edit: FYI I do not smoke myself, I like the effects from smoking but Vodka will not make your cloths smell for days unless you spill it on yourself.

I was always bothered by this scene and the subsequent continuation of Judy smoking throughout the questline.

Mainly because Judy is an EX smoker. She literally says she used to smoke but then quit.

You don't play into people's recovery by giving them the thing they quit. Be it giving an ex-smoker a cigarette, an ex-drinker alcohol or an ex-druggie narcotics.

They quit for a reason and if you care in any way for them, you won't let them relapse. But with Judy you have no choice, you HAVE to give her a cigarette and lo and behold, she relapses and starts smoking constantly... Way to go V...

Not a problem in 2077, you can drink as much as you want!
In case your liver give up and if you have the money, you can get an artificial liver implant at your beloved ripperdoc. Johnny got a new one because his "organic liver" looked like a paper bag full of shit according to his ripperdoc, which not really suprising :D

Not sure what people want to achieve by saying "no" to Judy...
Judy decided to smoke again (she's quite stubborn and just discovered her best friend dead in her bathroom, so not in a good mood...).
Even if V was able to refuse giving her a cigaret, she would simply be pissed of, jump in her van right after the convo, buy a pack of cigarets 5 minutes later at the first vending machine she come accross and smoke again anyway...

So except piss her of, not sure what would be the point to refuse

Not necessarily. She simply "Needs something in her lungs besides air"

This isn't necessarily meaning "I want to long term smoke again" it's more of a single instance of being in a vulnerable state, one where she has in the past used smoking to help deal with.

If only she had a friend (Whom maybe she's romantically interested in, i.e. Fem V), who could provide her company in lieu of smoking...

Again, not necessarily.

She's upset and is specifically calling out V whom has the cigarette case, it being an opportune moment to access cigarettes.

I've known plenty of people who've had similar greivances and look to utilize an opportune moment to go back to a past vice... Then if refused they move on because that's what they resolved to do when they quit in the first place.

The point is that the scene and the subsequent behaviour stems from the scene in question happening to utilize the literal worst possible action.

Giving a cigarette to an ex-smoker.

Ideally, the scene would last longer and have V provide more of a comfort to her and help Judy get her mind off things in a way that doesn't involve smoking. Yes, she states that she wants to be alone, but people in this situation will often say that but still actually find a lot of comfort in not being alone.

If Judy doesn't smoke in this scene, due to V providing her comfort and not cigarettes, it's far less likely that she'd go out and buy more afterwards when she feels a little better.

But alas this would involve more depth to interaction with Judy (Including going with her when she decides to go get drunk later. Like, she cares enough about V to be texting but not enough to invite them to go drinking...), including the possibility for the relationship to begin earlier than Pyramid Song.
