Smoking

Hi there! I was wondering if there is any allusion to what kind of herb do the people of the world smoke. I've read The Last Wish & Blood of Elves, but I don't recall having read anything about smoking. Is in in the books or in the game anywhere?

Thanks! : D

I don't recall it mentioned in the books or in TW1. TW2 has "pipe weed" (the soldier Mavrick, in the quest "Little Sisters"), Geralt sometimes smokes a post-coital churchwarden, and some townsfolk smoke.

In Tolkien (himself a pipe smoker), pipe weed was introduced by the Númenóreans, but hobbits were the first to figure out that it could be smoked. It would not surprise me to learn that the origin goes back to elves in the Witcher universe, but we have no evidence to go on.

I've always preferred to think that Iorveth, in his dream as revealed by the harpy crystal, is actually baked and thinking about munchies. So that green goodness that we all know and love probably exists in the Witcher universe as well

Yes but it's a common place. That Hobbit\halfing representation come directly from Tolkien, where every hobbit is a habitual pipe weed smoker.

Speak.

I'd love for us to be able to smoke weed in the game. I don't want any kind of in game function or mechanic. I just want a "chill" button. Which I can press and then Geralt sits down and lights one up. And just enjoys life :)

But hey, at least we know drugs and alcohol is widely used. I'll keep my eyes out for any codex entry in TW3 about smoking ^^

Just figured it's like tobacco and I haven't really seen anything in the games that would indicate otherwise. I could be wrong, though.

I first noticed the smoking animatition in TW2 in Flotsam and was impressed that they added a clanking sound when an armored soldier in the camp in chapter 2 hits his chest. I thought that was a nice detail.

Does köttbullar smörgåstårta count as drug ? :p

And to get back on topic:

I don't smoke IRL, so I really don't mind if Geralt does or not.
If people need it for immersion, I'm ok with that.

That was my thought as well but I was curious if there was any mention in the books, as there was no tobacco in medieval Europe but there is in Tolkien's work & the game.

Thanks for the answers guys. : D

More like an April Fool's Day gag; I'm not sure what day would correspond in the Witcher world calendar.

[recipe at Fake Meatball Sandwich]

Anyway, I wonder if pipe weed is more common in Nilfgaard and in Northern centers of trade like Novigrad.

Witcherland and Middle-Eartch aren't medieval Europe... there are other worlds...

I am all for legalization of marijuana/cannabis in the Northern kingdoms. I would love to smoke weed while riding or fighting monsters under the influence. Can some sorceress invent Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds as well? It will spice things up even more. :)

Could we not just have drugs, but also a cut-scenes of some contextual hallucinations, raging from a fighting monsters nightmare to a crazy love scene? In such case my Geralt sure wouldn't leave a settlement without being fully stocked on hallucinogens. :)

If you want Lucy to take you for a ride, maybe you should talk to Kalkstein. It's more in his line of research :)/>

I noticed that a number of the best vodkas are described as "hallucinogenic". So Lucy or one of her friends is there already.

I hate to put a damper on this kind of talk about drugs but let`s be fair . For some the use of drugs in game may be ok and for others like me ....not so much . It`s enough for them to be in the game I however don`t want to see the use of drugs in game . What kind of message would that send to the game journalists who review the game and then recommend it or not because of it .
