I don't know why everyone is focusing on guns and ignoring the important developments:
http://boingboing.net/2013/05/22/open-source-hardware-3d-printe.html

A mechanical engineer (awesomely) named Anjan Contractor has won a NASA grant to prototype a 3D printer for food -- specifically pizza.

I always thought there should be a /pizza command in some MMO, that linked with the online ordering of a local pizza joint. You'd type the command, and your pre-loaded preference would get sent off to said joint, who then deliver said pizza. Could be a tie-in with a national chain.

Though, printed pizza would cut the middleman right out. =)

Noticing how dirty the cell was, and contemplating using the scrub bucket to tidy up a bit?

...

That slop in the bucket *is* for scrubbing up, right?...

There's one more planned, but I'm looking into using REDkit as an animation tool. Pros: Render times should be better than my current one frame per two minutes, access to their mocap library. Cons: I have a large investment in models that probably aren't compatible.

If you stick your head in it, all will become much clearer. Try it! You'll love the effect!

I don't know what will change in the game experience, for being a 3D printed gun. If more expensive or some especial abilities. But i don't see this being any sort of bad or good change inside Cyberpunk.

Viewing the world through rose colored... er... daffodil colored glasses, as it were.

I guess it makes it easier to have customised weapons. Whether or not "making it easier" is a good thing is a different argument.

Think I remember an Autofactory where you could make items from patterns. You had to feed in the materials and the pattern. You also had to rent time on the autofactory. In all it was just easier to buy something at a store.

If I remember correctly grocery stores were automated as well. You went to a terminal, punched in what you wanted and it was brought to you. This may be from sources other than CP2020. Will have to go back and reread some of the background.

There are CAD-factories and stores which supply a CAD option, yes. Grocery stores are more traditional, depending on your locale and wealth level.

The more I think about it the more this really seems like an unavoidable concept for a world over 50 years in the future. No matter what the laws are Night City is clearly filled with people who simply aren't concerned with the legality of anything. I don't know if this 3D printing aspect is going to be even touched on in the game but I could imagine a decent means for balancing it being the rarity or at least how expensive GOOD raw materials might be. If you could produce anything and everything of the best quality from any printer then you've got a free for all with the weapons available and this slowly becomes 3D printing wars 2077. If they do take a crack at this I would imagine it should involve limitations on cost and availability of different quality raw resources or "inks." Illegality of 3D printing in the Cyberpunk2077 world could be a means of making those "inks" rarer thus more expensive, thus more difficult to come by.

I think this is a great thought to have had. It's a concept that I could definitely come to expect in Night City 2077.
