So it's ok to stream the game now? that's really sad CDPR.

Does anyone have the names of the retailers who released too soon (for boycotting these retailers)?

I saw TW3 in the shelves at Gamestop in my city, but I didn't ask them if it was out, or just on display, so I can't say for sure.

The likelihood of finding a dishonest retailer willing to violate the contract is rather greater than that of finding a retailer who got their stock without having to sign a contract with a release date clause. The distributors handling the retail game are very big and very corporate and do these things strictly by the book.

It's not fair to retailers who abide by the release date to release the game early. It also fucks up all the publicity planned for the release. Doing anything of the kind would result in a hail of lawsuits that would bury any goodwill they got from a handful of PC gamers under the lawyers' fees, time wasted in court, and poisoned relationships with distributors that would come of it.

So this is a case of "not just NO, but HELL NO".

First time I can say I agree with what you say.
I find it strange that companies do this so rigidly, while it has proven to be a very organic problem.
I wonder if they will ever evolve to include a solution for this kind of problem; a solution that adapts to the situation.

Would it be hard to make a contract with the publishers and/or retailers, to make it possible for the developer to have the final say on the release date?
It would deal with this kind of situation without any kind of lawsuit or major problem.

I think people are pissed off, because CD Projekt RED releases the game without DRM. But this is only true for Consoles since PC has DRM a day one patch.

Even if you get your hands on a PC retail version you won't be able to play it. If this is also true for the XBOX, they made a mistake with the playable PS4 Version.
At least the pirates aren't getting the game earlier then the paying costumer (that woud've been the case if the PC retail version is playable without patch).

But all this, isn't a viable reason to release early. The only people that benefit from that, are the people that pre-ordered the game online. What about the people that pre-ordered the physical version or people that have some kind of launch event planned?

They would feel like Sasha Grey when she had a party in her backyard with 5 guys and the shitstorm would get real. So be patient or get a PS4 and try to get an early copy if you want to play it right now. You'll have plenty of time to enjoy the witcher 3 Wild Hunt :)

I agree this is sad. all retailers who sold copys before release violated contracts so lawsuits should be started and streaming / uploading videos should not be allowed before release. players who already got the copys should be allowed to play, but not share.
I don't really care at all because anyway i can only play on 21th evening because of exams, but those who already have their holidays for release date and preordered ages ago could feel bad.

kind of a stupid situation. in germany the big retailers sell every version already (pc, ps4, xbox) so you go home install it to find the play button greyed out cause of missing files(so much for no drm) while the consoleplayers got it served on the silver plate. yeah official release is on 19th but cdpr always did the pr-job of being the last good guy for the pcgamers. bit of a letdown.

99.99% of all console gamers do not have access to the game. Stop the hyperbole simply because you are jealous of a select few.

Oh, shit will hit the fan for sure. The distributors (remember, they're paying for the publicity) are the injured party, and they will cut off or sue anybody who broke the date. They have armies of lawyers just for cases like that. [Exit Guy, whistling "Send lawyers, guns and money / The shit has hit the fan"]

I have ordered a hard copy and it's only just been shipped, may get it Monday but not before, so not all console players will be playing all weekend, don't hate us all we are just as upset as you PC players!

I think some people are exaggerating the issue. Just wait 3 more days, enjoy the weekend, have a few beers. Damn. I have a PS4 and I look at the countdown several times a day and I couldn't care less if some got the game early. Sure, it would be awesome to have the game now but oh well, such is life.

None of that helps any of the people who are justifiably pissed that they have to wait (despite pre ordering perhaps MONTHS in advance), while others get to dig in well ahead of schedule. But thems the breaks, and life isn't fair and blablabla.

Letting them stream just feels like a slap in the face from CDPR.

Oh dear, isn't that great? I'm so happy that other people get to play early! At least they'll have tons of fun while I study for my exams.

I'd love to be playing the game right now, but then again I know the release date is the 19th, and I'll wait. The anticipation, although painful if kind of fun. It's sort of like waiting to go on holiday!

Think of it this way, those people who are already playing the game have already opened their Christmas present - mine's still wrapped and waiting under the tree. I'm sort of pleased about that. You don't get to repeat the shear joy of those first few hours playing.

Some retailers, who clearly have absolutely no regard for CD Projekt, sold the game early. This has caused one monumental headache for CD Projekt, and any anger should be directed at those retailers, and not the developers.

Incorrect it's in the developers hands. The situation can easily be fixed if they get together and make a command decision. It's the only logical solution otherwise lockdown the ability for consoles to be playing it and lock down the streams. So only smart choice is to unlock it for everybody and provide us pc gamers the patch. They own Gog right? Be pretty easy to do and I guarantee most of us who bought it on steam would buy it a second time on Gog just to have access now.

Should have made it this weekend. I could take the downgrade, I already expected it, with today's industry practices. I could take the "promises" because Peter Molyneux (as much as I love his charming series) had done it, and so had Todd Howard, and many others, it's no surprise to me. But this is too much. Allowing them to stream? Giving them a forum for it?

You're rewarding the poor practices of a few people, and punishing the loyal customers as a result, regardless of all the contracts. Well, whatever, I'm going to be playing something else to bide my time, but remember who got screwed here, and remember that they've been your fans since the first game. Also remember that they're the same people who've been defending you loyally.

the whole twitter comment about greenlight to stream the unreleased game makes it nasty and that twitter comment was the only official anwser to this whole mess..

of course playerbase gets a bit angy about it while a simple official statement in the form of "sry guys pc patch not done yet for pc wait until tuesday" would probably bring back radio silence

How do you lock down a game with no drm?

By what logic do you come up with the idea the ONLY smart choice is to unlock it for everyone? In point of fact the only SMART choice is to maintain the release date so anyone waiting for the game to ship from online retailers like amazon and so forth are not sitting at home going i wish I could play.

Or is the bald face truth on this subject is that you really don't give a flying frak about anyone else just so long as YOU are playing?

Since i need to take my mind off this matter and speed-up the time until Monday night somehow, i think this weekend i'll do a Witcher 2 run with a very cruel and big human-hater Geralt :)

It's is the only logical solution. Those who ordered it like I have in past with certain games can easily buy it digitally. That is what the industry is going to, get used to it. I think at this point all game stores should just release it for all console gamers. It's basically happened in Europe the states and else where should follow suit.
