So... Who's still getting Dark Souls PC?

Okay, long story short: A lot of people seem to be getting off the Dark Souls PC wagon.

Why? The port wasn't what they expected/asked for, it won't get many enhancements from the console versions, it also uses GFWL.

My take on all this? I'm not even remotely angry at From/Namco, after all they ARE taking a financial risk relasing the game on a platform fully draconian to them, so it's only the natural thing to do to try and minimize costs by giving the port to a small developer team and little funds/time to try to keep it as cheap as possible, at least until it proves to be profitable. On the other hand there is From, who said to be "testing the waters" with this port, so this is a pretty good chance to convince From and other japanese developers that there is actually a very profitable market for their games on the PC, they just need to know how to approach it.

So what's your take on all this? Are you still willing to buy the game? I post this here because there is hardly a community more qualified to answer a question about PC RPGs than the Witcher fanbase.

I will buy it, just because I'm too interested in that game to give it a miss if they finally release it to PC, no matter the use of GFWL. I'm not happy about it, but I think I can make an exception once.

I already have the PS3 version and honestly, while I really have to applaud From/Namco for their honesty, I don't see why I'd buy the game twice if the PC version isn't going to look better. I might have considered it, but there really just isn't a reason for me.

Those of you who don't have one of the console versions, though, seriously, you need to play this game, even if it's not or poorly optimized.

If they want to use GFWL, then the only way they'll be getting my money is by mugging me in an alley.

Played a bit of Demons Souls on my nephews console, good but it's no Severance: Blade of Darkness, so i'll just do another playthrough of that again and wait a few more years for an equal or better combat system to not appear.

I'm buying it, always wanted to play it and if its a 1 to 1 port + a few more levels, thats fine by me.

BTW, shouldn't this be in the community forum?

A straight port without any benefits is tolerable. GWFL, however, is not, so I'm saving my money.

I didn't sign any petitions or anything, but I think I would have at least checked the game out (as in: look up some gameplay, etc.) if not for the way they're doing it. I think it's really great that they listened to all their PC fans and actually made a port, but how on earth did they decide on GFWL? I think that already cost them about 50% of their potential customers. And after hearing that they didn't manage to make the game look or run better than on consoles... well, I can appreciate their honesty and their efforts, but you can hardly expect anyone that hasn't already promised to do so to go out and buy this.

I have never had any issue with GFWL, and I have many (perhaps too many) games that use it, so im not too concerned.

I already have Dark Souls on 360. I was looking forward to the PC version because I thought it would have sharper graphics, run at a higher frame-rate, and have decent keyboard/mouse controls (I find the gamepad controls annoying at times due to not being able to adjust the camera at the same time as pressing the face-buttons).

However it turns out none of that will happen, and the PC version uses GFWL on top of that, so I'm not interested in the PC version anymore. I'll eventually finish my play-through on 360 and then I'll probably never play the game again.

Not likely. I'm tired of getting table scraps from console devs.

I don't care about the locked 30fps or 720p or upscaled awful textures. What bothers me is that they can't even fix the horrible frame-rate drops from the console versions.

I can understand the other things being too expensive and difficult for a port that wasn't intended in the first place but not even being able to fix some of the biggest game breaking issues from the console version when putting it on PC is just pathetic and disappointing.

I'm on the fence. On one hand, it's still a good game. On the other, it's looking to be a cheap and rushed port that they just want to throw out there to rake in some extra money and I have no respect for that mindset. In an interview one of the project leaders said they just want to get the game out as soon as possible. That's not okay.

Last I heard, yeah. Literal direct port from consoles with absolutely no fixes or optimization because they just want to get it out as soon as humanly possible.

I can deal with GFWL frankly and bad controls (I did with Witcher 2) but I cannot deal with an FPS lock.

I'm glad they're honest about it, but for fuck's sake, if you're not going to port it properly, don't fucking do it at all. I WAS interested, but now I'm not, I'll just check it out for my PS3.
