[Solved] Black Screen of Death

I was suffering from ramdom black screen of death during TW2 gameplay, with the video card (ATI HD4870) shutting down probably from overheating despite no overclock being used. Interesting thing that such thing does not happen with other games like Battlefield 2 or GTA IV.

Only way I could solve this issue without tuning down the graphic options (wich also failed to solve the problem), was to install ATI Catalyst and lower the GPU and video RAM frequency, and opening the desktop case. After this, the game worked well without the black screen of death.

I also set anti-alising and anisotropic filtering to x4

I still do think that TW2 may overheat the videocard abnormally because other heavy games do not cause such problem. Hope this post helps other people facing the same problem.

I also do recommend to install the gog.com version for TW2, wich saved me a lot of problems faced using STEAM version. I do not suffer anymore from net framework 4 repetitive installations each time I started the game and from the lack of voice sounds at the tutorial.

If the card overheats then it's a hardware problem, videocards and other components should be properly cooled no matter what application is running, now in your case Witcher2 just uses more resources than other games... comparing them is pointless
