Solved my Skyrim problem and it rocks.

Until someone suggested to turn off the hud, it was too easy to fall into the standard ocd rpg mode while playing. This was a little sad.. as personally.. because of how gorgeous the world is, i actually wanted to play the game more like skyrim, be in a world rather than on a dotted line going for some fapping 100% achievement completion.

So what i've done is, turn off most of the hud, and bought the really shocking ipad map app (poor quality they dont deserve money but its needed for this). As someone suggested.. every time i load up, i think about what quests ive got active, think about the world, look on the map where there's something.. basically decide my own adventure.. memorize (really quickly) the paths on the map, find out what time of day it is to get a compass and away i go. After this, the only thing the in game map is needed for is the yellow circles for multiple phase quest objectives. The rest is via the ipad app.

So very satisfied with this mode of playing. I don't feel like i'm in a on rails bioware story.. its enough to make you feel like you're witching around as a witcher.

I see alot of other threads with people raising issues about CRPG GAMEPLAY problems.. while they all sound fair if you wanted to play a map marker ocd rpg.. well, all i can say is if you want to be a witcher getting a story in a well done believeable world.. after you fix it... that type of game scores a pretty happy 10/10 so far.

You can download the map if you own the gog version and use that.

Yeah i was thinking about printing something out on paper also you do need this on a separate screen at least.. Yeah i find you do go back and check the map as often as you would in real life. That crap terribad ipad app lets you flag things as completed as well..

I tried playing with all HUD items off at first...but I pretty much need the mini-map and the witcher health/stats bar I disable most of what the minimap shows but there is zero guidance without it. It's unfortunate. All the other hud stuff can remain off.

Glad you solved your problem, @vesemas228. I'm not as hard-core as you are, but recently I've abandoned using fast-travel to get from place to place and it makes the game sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better.

There is so much you miss fast-traveling everywhere you go. If nothing else, there is the gorgeous visuals you see as you whip by on your horse.

Guidance for what? Yeah you do need to look at the 'm' map to find out where the objectives for quests are for sure.. but as a far as getting there.. spend a few heartbeats memorizing the drawn paths, in particular, where they fork and where you want to go when they do. Then its all smooth sailing, and a sea of text labels on fauna to help console players know what they are (sorry :p). Damn its good though. Whats super near about this the drawn maps don't indicate elevation and where you go can be nothing like what you were expecting.. exploring ftw.

See thats perfect though right.. if you suddenly feel like you're bored and just want story, or chose not to walk because you've been walking all day.. that's what these crutches are for. I do that also! I havent noticed an advancing date in the game and quite glad about this also.

It's hard to explain, but there are many quests that left me thinking: I have no idea how I would of found the proper direction or general areas for this quest without the mini-map. In the beginning, I remember I got so sick of using witcher senses for a lot of things like harvesting bushes that I said, eff-it i'm turning the minimap on because that's pretty much the same as witcher senses in my mind.

Witcher senses don't have a guidance direction towards quests like Clairvoyance from Skyrim...only works if there's detective work to be done.

The minimap is also a compass, so that's the other reason I justify leaving it on. I do turn off all the additional stuff that comes up on the minimap.
