I started this exact topic in Gamespot yesterday. I just bought the game, and once I got through the tutorial and stopped to play around with settings, this really stood out for me, to the point where I stopped playing to post around in forums. I'm glad at least others are having the same problem, hopefully they listen and fix it with the second patch. I normally wouldn't bug a developer on their forum about what needs to be added in a patch, but this is an incredibly easy thing to fix. Everything is there to allow you to walk in OTS, it just needs to be mapped to the keyboard. Typically in a game the left shift key is used, but of course here they picked a different function for that. The isometric camera is ok, but it just doesn't give the same level of immersion. If this game was accessible to modders you'd probably have a mod out in the first few hours. I can understand why some people may see this as insignificant, to me it's just a matter of personal preference. It's not about Role-Playing, but rather immersion. A lot of work goes into the art in games like this, and I like to take it in. You can say I could just stop and look around to do this, which I may do from time to time, but it's important be able to take things in while I'm actually moving about. Maybe some people have played enough FPS's that they're twitch reflexes are honed enough that they can appreciate things while running around, but I gotta walk. I'll run when I'm focused on going from point A to point B. So for the time being I've stopped playing, and am going to keep my fingers crossed that they fix this with patch 1.2.

The game will create significant greater value if we can walk and relax. I love the OTS, but unfortunately walking in this mode is impossible.

So I'm curious, with patch 1.2 out and no walking fix, what exactly is the difficulty with this? I'm still fairly new in the field and I'm not in the gaming industry, but I am a programmer, and I would think something like this should be ridiculously easy. The function already exists, so doesn't it just need to be mapped to a key? Only thing I can really think of is that the OTS view is custom built for the Aurora engine, so maybe there's something there that makes it difficult to tinker with?

Well, maybe, Geralt is under so much pressure from all the stress involved in hunting down stolen mutagens and equipment, his innate need to kill monsters and protect humanity, how that innate need conflicts with his protecting his non-human friends from humanity, all while still needing time to stop and screw anything with a pair of t*ts, that he just doesn't have time to walk. The man's in a hurry. Does that solve the role-playing element for you?I'd much rather them fix the auto-sheathing first, as that will get me killed, and the inability to walk will not.

Seriously, why are some people such dicks about the walking thing? Who cares about the reason (roleplaying isn't mine), it's a popular request, is standard in games and already exists in the other camera mode, and most importantly, should be dead simple to implement. Typifire if you actually bothered to read the three lines I wrote you'd see I was just asking if there's a reason that makes it difficult to fix. Apart from a design issue it should only take a minute to add the fix.

Since so many people posted their request for being able to "walk" in th OTS mode, i'm sure that the developers are aware of it.I'm not in the gaming industry, but i was programmer too (now i'm more in the management area) - so let me tell you an important rule when implementing something complex:"First make it work, then make it fast".In other words: The developers are focusing on improving the game stability, the performance and fixing bugs. Additional features, how small and easy they might look like, do not have a high priority at this moment. And in my opinion, this approach is 100% fine.

yeah all that courtship and gift giving stuff just slows Geralt down, he should be able to just autosheath any woman he finds attractive.oh, wait, that's not what you were talking about, was it. :p

Well, nothing I said was really meant to be taken seriously. So, seriously, it was a joke. Though I was serious about the auto-sheathing being a higher priority. :)

Maybe that's because were it a REAL situation, you WOULD be constantly running to battle. A mad(as in crazy) rebel mage has stolen all the secrets and equipment Witchers have used to gain their supernatural abilities. While, as a gameplayer, you may want to appreciate the scenery, and screw everyone in it, the REALISTIC pace SHOULD be a hurried one. You're not off to drop off your Dry Cleaning, you're trying to save the world. If you want to appreciate scenery, just stop and do so. Then you have more reason to run, because you just wasted 15 minutes staring at the sunset...and all that time evil was using your stolen stuff to mutate housepets, and make insane clay miners pick flowers for an illegal drug trade. :)

Really? To me it kind of looked like he was browsing a swap meet. Just strolling along and having a look sideways....ho hum.A much more realistic pace for someone who's trying to save a world hanging over the precipice of destruction. :)
