I noticed this as well, Geralt seems to be running faster sometimes.

i think it might have something to do with the terrain/environment if you're going uphill or downhill a bit in the game

Is it point and click or WSAD keys?

Both, depending which you choose

The game has three view modes. High isometric and low isometric both use left click to move Geralt. The third, over-the-shoulder, mode adopts the WASD movement system.

You're right, a teacher challenges his students, and isn't (shouldn't) be their opponent. But I don't see games as teachers, more like well, game opponents, say - a friend you're playing chess with and actively trying to 'beat.' A teacher challenges you to succeed but not to 'win' the way a game does. I mean games actively try to kill the protagonist and his friends, a situation you as the player has to avoid in order to win. That's not the only thing games do obviously, but there's a hugely antagonistic aspect to game AI and simulated threats. But it should also be mentioned that games are always on the player's side, and actively conspire to give the player all the tools they need to win. The challenge is in using those tools correctly. In the Witcher, It seems to me that the only time the game plays against the player, is when it removes corpses so quickly that their sometimes quest-important loot becomes extremely difficult to find without alt-highlight. But you're right, - its no answer to not being able to walk.

The bottom line here is that, when you play a game by yourself, you are only cheating if you think you are; it doesn't affect anyone else. Thus, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, either. Have fun!~ Roxy

It depends on what you find comfortable. I prefer WASD. Combat took a tiny bit getting used to. It's not "click like crazy" like most games. There's a rhythm and the cursor will promt you when to click to continue the slashing chain. As soon as you get used to it, it's very comfortable and actually pays off at higher levels with some awesome finish moves.

That makes sense to me, I'm almost 100% that I've seen Geralt run down hills at great speed (almost tumble down) in chapter 4. He seems to move faster for me in hostile areas, but that could be my imagination.

Maybe you are hoping he is running faster. :p

It may have to do with loading an area, since the engine loads everything. So if you start running right when entering an area, it is slower. Sometimes waiting a little gets rid of the random speeds. Also solves the camera hopping around wildly.

Geral's speed varies for me too. I hope they fix this with the next patch (and we can run the fastest all the time).

What a great game. My only two questions are: One, is there a way to have your character walk rather than run all the time? And two, is it possible to unlock the adult content? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks.

To walk, simply go into F2 or F3 camera modes and hold the cursor close to Geralt, so he'll walk. I guess what people are complaining about is that they can't walk in F1 mode, or that it is cumbersome to hold the cursor so close.I think there is a patch/ mod for adult content. There is a joke in Fallout 2 : there is a dialogue choice in Vault City that goes: "I thought there were no children because I had the European version of Fallout 2" - or something like that. Seems like the tables are reversed now!! There too, you can get a patch to restore content. (and you can go into combat mode and attack anyone, so you can kill that annoying First Citizen or become a child killer).

And Even Faster (Group style), I hope this doesn't also apply to his performance in other areas of life.

Just to note - this was made from the Aurora Engine and it had the same issue ni that you needed to mouse click close otherwise your character would run. It was however patched in so you could shift walk. It was completely immersion breaking in NWN for the chars to always run as it was very heavy roleplay especially in online campaigns.A shift walk add to the enhanced version is a must in my opinion. In the demo I walked in over the shoulder mode, looked around and loved the view. I wanted to walk around slowly and enjoy the scene but Geralt kept charging everywhere. Seriously - please put walk in. Since walking in already in anyway for when you click near Geralt in the isometric view, just enable it in over the shoulder with shift!
