If it's a parallel universe, then a CP 2077 spin off seems more appropriate. CDPR has said they want to take a fresh look at the source material because not all the tech has evolved the way it was imagined. Which is why having a colony on Mars by 2077, let alone 2020, is so unrealistic it's almost laughable. They can't have a low tech version of sci-fi with stuff like that present. In the London interview the writer even emphasized 'it's not sci-fi.'

I'm not sure if you understood me correctly, i'm saying that the WHOLE Cyberpunk universe from 2013 to 2020 to 2077 are all parallel to ours but it is not our universe. Meaning, even though we (our technology) wouldn't be able to reach and colonize Mars by 2077, they were already able to do so by 2020. Source materiel says so. It is not laughable, it is a fact. There is a whole story arc called Deep Space. I'm not saying we should be able to visit Mars colony, i even think we shouldn't. But it exists nevertheless.

What Chris trying to say, wanting to go to space just for the sake of going there doesn't add anything to the game. Without purpose, it is a waste of resources. (At least i assume thats what he's trying to say..)

I still think it would be nice to visit Crystal Palace.. If i was a corporate, i would like to go there and do some business with some of the major players.. Oh yeah... :D Other than orbital stations, colonies wouldn't offer much anyway.

ya with the right sound system, the experience would be epic, it would be better if it wasnt a cutscene and it was real time, and then on the way there the rocket would turn into a normal airplane with stewardess bringing you drinks and food and an old guy sitting next to you yapping. its about realism. i think it would elevate the game experience.

As Wars pointed out, it brings nothing to the game. You would be better off getting a copy of Kerbal.

Now visiting LEO colonies like Crystal Palace would be cool and there is potential there, but I think that would be better suited to either a DLC or a later release. I think it would be a bit "too much, too soon" to have something like that in the initial release.

waste of resources....the game takes place in Night City......we play an underdog from the gutter, why the hell should we go to the crystal Palace? Would this even make sense in the story?

As i agree that going to Mars, even Moon or any other colonies wouldn't really make sense, Crystal Palace orbital station could make sense for the corporate, or anyone who wish to do business with the top guys.. (Or to assassinate them.. Now, that's a thought..) Still, would work better as a DLC and it should not be a priority either.. (There are a lot more interesting stuff in Cyberpunk universe) I would much rather see the wastelands and the combat zone over Crystal Palace. Still, if they have some spare time, i wouldn't be against seeing an orbital station. But it should be last thing on the list as companions, weapon and armor modification system, even modular hud has a higher priority for me.

Yeah, thats not going to happen.. Unless your character is a noteworthy/well known/high-profile and rich person as well, that rich guy probably wont be meeting with you face to face.. At some point in the game, your character might reach a certain level of statue that you can go there, but otherwise not..

I mean, if the person you are doing business with is a rich and important guy and you are a nobody, why would that guy ever meet you face to face? You will be seeing and hearing from his people and not him.. That's the way it would work...

Like I already said; Get a copy of Kerbal.
Failing that, you can always hope that Microsoft put out 'Rocket Simulator 2015.

you are being kinda snarky about it. how can you have a future without space. my philosophy in a game is to make it as awesome and fun as possible. i hated games that showed stuff but you could never interact with them

Even if there is no space segment in the world of cyberpunk there is a spaceport for tourists and they should at least put that in the game/city. for realism.

I prefer the term 'practical', but I will accept snarky. You on the other hand have blinkers on.

Wether space travel/exploration is valid or present in the Cyberpunk 2020/2077 setting is not the issue. It's about wether or not it has a place in the game, (or at least the first edition.) Sure, Crystal Palace and the other LEO stations and habitats are present. Sure there are reasons to go there. But as any half decent card player knows, you don't show your hand too early.

If there is going to be space travel or Low Orbit flights of any kind, then CDPR should hold off and use it for content in future Cyberpunk games or additional content.

Oh, and before I forget, what has space exploration got to do with Cyberpunk? A world stripped of wealth and resources by the corrupt megacorporations that do nothing unless the profit margins are high enough. Space exploration is expensive and high risk, two of the things that the corporations avoid like the plague.

In fact, please answer this question:

Which is more Cyberpunk:

The aging mercenary, walking down a neon lit street littered with the detritus of corporate advertising andtakeaway food wrappers, a constant drizzle slowly soaking through his old coat, searching for a new contract and another doc that can keep him in stimulants and new reflex boosting implants while also patching him up.

or

How about this question:

Please name one Cyberpunk movie that featured space travel or exploration, (other than Alien - which was more Horor in my view,) other than by reference.

You really don't get it.. Nobody is against visiting space colonies of stations in game.. But people are keep telling you that visiting those places, at least in this Cyberpunk game doesn't really make sense.. As it is the first true cyberpunk game and it is and it should be about the Night City above all else.. None of us want any area in cyberpunk unexplored as i (and Chris) said many times before, but it is not and should not be the priority in this game as there are many other areas that takes priority over space at the moment...

Total Recall had space travel, although I'm not sure I'd qualify it as cyberpunk. Blade Runner mentioned it frequently, of course, but as background.
It was important as background, BECAUSE it provided a cleaner, purer alternative to contrast with the gritty ugly setting. Space had to be unattainable in BR as it represented the Better Life the characters could never have. Even the replicants, who "came from" space in their way, were examples of how disposable non-humans do all the dirty work Offworld.

Which is the role the Crystal Palace and off-world typically serves in CP2020. Cleaner, purer, safer, better. Not For You, Punk. Which is great! From such contrasts come definition and flavour.

Now, one of my favourite PnP campaign went to space for an extended amount of time - Mars, the Moon, Orbit. Very well done, still cyberpunk as all get out and properly portrayed as how even in the "better world" off Earth, eventually humans still screw each other over. But it only worked because

first we spent months in Night City and then other terrestrial locations.

So that it could provide a contrast to the Cyberpunk setting that had already been established.

Which is why it's so important that 2077 be as perfectly Cyberpunk as possible. Everything after that can have space or powered armour or deltas or aliens or WHATEVER you've seen in other cyberpunk-style flicks....as long as the first one is as pure as they can make it.

Oh, another cyberpunk style space flick is Outland, with Sean Connery. Excellent - watch it if you haven't.

Crystal palace as DLC, sure... but only after a nom,ad area/wasteland is assured.

Mars.... just no... no no no... the travel time back and forth drops it out of thee running completely, as it would break the suspension of disbelief too hard... by the time you got there, if you came back to night city, everything would be different... we are talking years here.

Not so much. Mars isn't that far. Depending on reaction mass and tech, about half a year to a year one way. And that's today's tech.

Pretty doable.

Actually, even now they are working on things like ion thruster (VASIMR engine to be specific) which could reach Mars in 39 days, and fusion rocket which could reach Mars in mere 30 days.. And who knows, in 50 years even more could be possible...

Space is kewl. thats all i got to say. and it would be a nice change of scenery going to crystal palace escaping Night City for a while. Maybe theres a guy on that station that has vital info we need and we need to heist him or something.
